The group you'll be a part of

The Global Information Systems Group is dedicated to the success of Lam through providingbest-in-class and innovative information system solutions and services. Together, we supportusers globally with data, information, and systems to achieve their business objectives.

The impact you'll make

The Director of Infrastructure Platform Engineering is a strategic and technically adept leader responsible for delivering and evolving enterprise infrastructure platforms that power global business operations. This roleleadsthe modernization of hybrid infrastructure services through Platform Engineering principles-enabling scalable, observable, and resilient systems that support developer productivity, operational efficiency, and business continuity.

The leader will oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of platforms spanning Azure Cloud, Azure Local (on-prem compute), NetApp storage, HPC, global networks, observability platforms, BC/DR, and FinOps. Success in this role requires deep technicalexpertise, a strong product mindset, and the ability to drive automation, reliability, and cost optimization across a complex infrastructure landscape.

What you'll do

Platform Engineering & Modern Infrastructure Delivery

  • Lead the transformation of infrastructure into platform services that are modular, automated, and consumable via APIs and self-service interfaces.
  • Apply Platform Engineering principles to deliver infrastructure as product, enabling internal teams to build, deploy, and operate applications with speed and reliability.
  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, CI/CD, and policy-as-code to ensure consistency, repeatability, and compliance.
  • Standardize automation frameworks and reusable patterns to reduce operational toil and accelerate delivery velocity.

Infrastructure Domains

  • Azure Cloud & Azure Local (On-Prem Compute): Deliver hybrid compute platforms with unified operational models, automated provisioning, and elastic scalability.
  • NetApp Storage: Provide enterprise-grade storage solutions with performance, availability, and lifecycle automation.
  • HPC & Scale-Out Storage: Engineer high-performance computing environments and large-scale storage systems optimized for data-intensive workloads.
  • Global Networks: Design and operate secure, high-performance global network infrastructure, incorporating modern architectures such as SASE-WAN, ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access), and SSE (Secure Service Edge) to enable secure, scalable connectivity across distributed environments.
  • BC/DR: Architect resilient systems and automated recovery capabilities to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Observability & SRE Platforms: Implement full-stack observability (metrics, logs, traces) and SRE practices to drive reliability, performance, and proactive incident response.
  • FinOps Practice: Lead cloud financial operations to optimize spend, improve cost transparency, and align infrastructure investments with business value.

Automation & Resilience Engineering

  • Build systems with the capabilities to detect, respond to, and recover from failures with minimal manual intervention.
  • Leverage telemetry, event-driven automation, and intelligent alerting to enable proactive and adaptive infrastructure operations.
  • Standardize health checks, remediation workflows, and operational runbooks to support resilient and scalable platforms.

Operational Excellence

  • Define and monitor SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets to ensure platform reliability and performance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through blameless postmortems, automation-first mindset, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory standards through automated controls and auditability.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build and lead a high-performing, globally distributed Platform Engineering team.
  • Partner with application teams, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and business units to deliver integrated, developer-friendly platforms.
  • Communicate platform strategy, value, and performance to executive stakeholders and influence cross-functional alignment.
Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in infrastructure/platform engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven expertise in Azure cloud services, hybrid compute/storage, and infrastructure automation.
  • Deep understanding of Platform Engineering, DevOps, and SRE principles.
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry), IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), and CI/CD platforms.
  • Strong background in HPC, scale-out storage, and global networking including SASE-WAN, ZTNA, and SSE architectures.
  • Demonstrated success in leading FinOps practices and optimizing cloud spend.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Certifications in Azure, Kubernetes, FinOps, or SRE.

  • Experience in regulated or large-scale enterprise environments.
