The Manager of Finance role serves as a consultative partner to Sales & Marketing leaders, analyzing business issues, develop recommendations and strategies based on financial research, create and analyze financial reports, and drive the implementation of processes that result in improved financial performance. Prior railroad experience is not required.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Analyze complex business issues including commercial and/or operating proposals, business segment profitability, marketing and pricing initiatives, and proposed capital investments. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all key business partners to facilitate turning financial information into tangible actions - Develop and utilize financial models to quantify benefits and drive sound, fact-based economic decisions
- Help guide the development of short- and long-term forecasts, plans, and strategies.
- Consult and communicate analyses through presentations to senior management in the department and business partners from other departments
- Measure performance of business units/company versus plan, provide updated forecasts and variance explanations. Develop action plans, as appropriate, to address identified issues and drive implementation of action plans
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and communication between and across the commercial and operating departments
- Leverage past experience to coach, train, and develop peers and junior-level Finance employees
- Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 4 or more years of experience in of full-time work experience required, including at least 2 years in a Finance role with responsibility for the financial analysis of key business issues, including capital expenditures, business segment profitability, and productivity initiatives

- Graduate Degree
- 6 or more years of experience and at least 4 years in a Finance role with responsibility for the financial analysis of key business issues, including capital expenditures, business segment profitability, and productivity initiatives
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience interacting with Executive Level Leadership
- Proven track record of delivering solutions that have had measurable financial impact
- Experience with internal and external resources in developing and implementing decision-support tools
- Demonstrated increases in scope of analytical and/or management responsibility
- Strong knowledge of financial concepts, processes, and modeling
- Microsoft Office Skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and build working relationships at all levels of an organization
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously as well as work independently and with diverse teams
