The
Enterprise Architect - Commercial, Digital & Data is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the strategic technology blueprint for the Commercial landscape. This role serves as the chief architect of a comprehensive "city plan" that integrates platforms, data, infrastructure, applications, and innovation zones to enable Commercial business capabilities across Field, Marketing, Value & Access, and Customer Experience.
Acting as a senior strategic partner to Commercial leadership, this architect drives alignment across Enterprise Architecture, Commercial IT, and functional stakeholders to ensure a scalable, secure, compliant, and future-ready technology ecosystem that supports Commercial growth and digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Blueprint Ownership & Strategic Architecture
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive Commercial Technology "City Plan" mapping platforms, data flows, integration layers, and innovation zones.
- Define and evolve target-state architectures for CRM, omnichannel engagement, analytics, and field enablement.
- Ensure architectural consistency across global markets while enabling appropriate local flexibility.
Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with Commercial business leaders to translate strategic objectives into technology capabilities and architectural roadmaps.
- Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to align with enterprise standards, governance, and long-term strategy.
- Work with Commercial Data IT teams to ensure data architecture, analytics platforms, and governance are embedded in the overall blueprint.
- Facilitate alignment across IT delivery teams, vendors, and external partners.
Use Case Enablement & Solution Design
- Lead architecture design for high-impact Commercial use cases, including customer journey orchestration, sales force automation, and digital marketing.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to enable Commercial innovation and differentiation.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Governance, Standards & Compliance
- Establish and enforce architecture governance frameworks, integration standards, and canonical data models.
- Ensure adherence to security, privacy, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Participate in architecture review boards and provide architectural guidance to delivery teams.
Innovation Leadership
- Drive innovation through experimentation zones, technology radar assessments, and partnerships with startups and strategic vendors.
- Promote a composable architecture approach to enable modularity, agility, and faster time to value.
- Champion data-driven decision-making and customer-centric design principles.
Commercial Expertise
- Apply deep understanding of Commercial processes across Sales, Marketing, Field Operations, Value & Access, and Customer Experience to inform architectural decisions.
- Ensure technology solutions are tightly aligned with operational workflows and measurable business outcomes.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in IT or Enterprise Architecture, with a strong focus on Commercial or customer-facing domains.
- Proven experience defining and delivering enterprise-scale architecture blueprints and target-state frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior business leaders as a trusted advisor on technology decisions impacting Commercial growth and transformation.
- Experience partnering with Enterprise Architecture and Data teams in a matrixed, global organization.
- Deep expertise in Commercial business processes, including Sales, Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Value & Access.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of Commercial platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Veeva, Adobe Experience Cloud, Model N etc. ).
- Expertise in data ecosystems and analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks) and cloud infrastructure (e.g., Azure).
- Ability to define target-state architectures and guide adoption of emerging technologies with a focus on scalability, security, and compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive-level communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in life sciences, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with agile delivery models, DevOps practices, and composable architecture.
- Certifications such as TOGAF, SAFe, or cloud platform certifications.

The salary range for this position is: $160,000 to $220,000. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
