President, Community Medical Center

Job Overview:

The President at Community Medical Center (CMC) will be responsible for all administrative aspects of the Hospital and other related entities. They will develop, execute, and drive the hospital's strategic and operational plan, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives. The President will provide strategic leadership, direction, vision, and oversight for the hospital and work closely with other senior leaders to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of exceptional, patient centered care and safe, high-quality access and outcomes. The President will also ensure compliance with established System objectives while enhancing the quality of patient care and delivering fiscally prudent health care services that meet the local community and patient population needs.

Reports To:

  • Bill Arnold, Executive Vice President, President of the Southern Region, RWJBarnabas Health; Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive management experience in health care administration, including five years of executive leadership within a hospital that is a member of a larger, multi-hospital system
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in healthcare administration, business administration or other related discipline required
  • Demonstrated experience and success delivering excellent service, operational and quality outcomes within an acute-care hospital setting. Proven track record of success in hospital and/ service line operations
  • Strong business insight, a sophisticated knowledge of healthcare funding, and experience in competitive marketplaces with the ability to make complex and difficult decisions
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, laws, and industry trends. Experience with budgeting and financial planning processes.
  • Prior experience leading within a matrixed organizational structure and managing physician relationships
  • Skill using and analyzing information systems to quickly recommend opportunities for optimization and efficiency
  • A record of recruiting, training, and mentoring employees. A reputation for sustained inclusive, trust-based physician and employee relations through understanding of employee viewpoints and needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Achieve the highest level of performance in CMC operating units. Establish, monitor, and manage strategies to ensure productivity, operational and financial performance, and patient throughput
  • Enhance the quality, access, safety, and efficiency of patient services and increase patient satisfaction with a focus on performance excellence and high reliability
  • Oversee the hospital's financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and achievement of financial targets
  • Leverage technology and data to continually measure results, improvements, and successes through key performance metrics
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Trustees, regularly reporting on all aspects of hospital operations including information on goal performance; continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives; regulatory, accreditation and licensing matters; and the impact of local, state and federal trends on healthcare
  • Support with the onboarding and education of new Board of Trustee members and participate on Board committees
  • Facilitate system collaboration and work effectively with system senior leadership, the Board of Trustees, department chairs, colleagues, and clinicians to achieve hospital, network and system goals
  • Foster robust, meaningful, and mutually beneficial relationships with community partners and medical staff. This includes representing the hospital and system in local and national organizations and helping to recruit and retain high-quality physicians
  • Develop strategic initiatives necessary to integrate and expand services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the RWJBarnabas Health and CMC community
  • Design organizational services collaboratively with community leaders and organizations appropriate to the scope and level of care required by the patients served. Develop and participate in systematic and effective mechanisms for fostering communication among individuals and groups within the organization and the community
  • Demonstrate market agility in analyzing and evaluating opportunities for capital expansion
  • Develop and execute long range, strategic, operational and space use plans for the hospital and system
  • Establish, maintain and direct a development organization structure to enhance and support professional fundraising programs for philanthropic income supporting CMC's capital and program needs
  • Supervise ongoing research, solicitation and evaluation of the CMC Foundation ensuring funds are collected and expended in alignment with strategic plans
  • Oversee private funding grant programs to include the management of grant writers; development of proposals and budgets; and overall grant program implementation, reporting and financial oversight
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including accreditation standards, Joint Commission regulations, and HIPAA guidelines
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, recruit, develop, retain, and enhance employee engagement and foster a culture of collaboration and enthusiasm
