SUMMARY

Oversees all functions of the Finishing Department. Supervises and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in operating a variety of machines to manufacture precision castings by performing the following duties.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Interviews employment candidates and selects qualified individuals as needed for various department operations.
  • Trains all department personnel as needed for each operation.
  • Analyzes work orders to estimate worker hours and create machining schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
  • Computes amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials from warehouse.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Plans flow of materials through department in accordance with customer and engineering specifications, part routers, and plant layout.
  • Ensures constant flow of parts through the department by assisting employees as needed with the operation of various types of equipment or by moving product from operation to operation.
  • Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Inspects and measures parts and products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Directs and assists workers in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products which fail to meet standards.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures/changes to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, cost, and/or improved efficiency of department and work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Ensures that casting defects detected through visual, FPI and x-ray inspections are corrected
  • Maintains time, attendance, and production records.
  • Ensures the safety of all department personnel through training and the consistent enforcement of safety policies.
  • Upholds the company's Quality Standards.
  • Supports, promotes, and enforces all company policies and ensures compliance with the company's Code of Ethical Standards and Business Practice.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Directly supervises employees in the Finishing Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.



QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience


High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional college-level work preferred.



Language Skills


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful.



Mathematical Skills


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.



Reasoning Ability


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.



Computer Skills


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of or ability to learn basic use of manufacturing software and word processing software.



Other Skills and Abilities


Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required. Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish helpful.



Other Qualifications


Ability to operate a fork lift truck.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
