We're seeking a future team member for the role of Director to join our Risk and Compliance team supporting Wealth Management. This role is located in New York City In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
- Leadership and oversight of risk management activities within the Wealth Management business, Bank Custody Solutions business, BNY Mellon, N.A. entity, and associated firm-wide platforms and entities.
- Ensures risk is managed holistically, aligned with the Bank's risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and related internal policies.
- Drives a strong risk culture and partners with businesses/control functions to identify, assess, and mitigate risks in the context of the reward of business activities and opportunities.
- Oversees the Bank's risk management framework and its implementation, including the appetite for risk taking and the establishment of appropriate controls.
- Builds trusted relationships with senior leadership, serving as a strategic and independent partner to evaluate, challenge, and guide business decisions.
- Collaborates with the business and other key stakeholders to evaluate the risk associated with potential new product offerings, new activities, and other initiatives.
- Ensures risk management practices comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Engages with regulators to provide essential risk context and a point of contact.
- Plays a central role in shaping the risk governance model, helping define and clarify roles and responsibilities, the overarching governance structure, and key committees including the senior-most risk management committee.
- Conducts regular risk reviews in order to provide an independent perspective across both financial and non-financial risks. Identifies emerging risks and advises on risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversees and evolves risk reporting processes to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of risk information.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, risk management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10+ years' experience in risk management and/or compliance, preferably with a risk management specialty applied in the oversight of wealth management business activities.
- Experience in broker-dealer or wealth management firms strongly preferred, especially with exposure to front-office or first-line risk roles in addition to second-line oversight.
- Demonstrated track record building or transforming risk functions and working with advisory businesses, structured product platforms, or alternative investments is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with an OCC-regulated entity preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in a highly matrixed organization across platforms/businesses and entities.
- Passion for the application of Artificial Intelligence technology to risk management and wealth management.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $127,000 and $211,500 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
