Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Legal Operations Manager.This role is responsible for managing legal budgets and cost controls, implementing and optimizing legal technology tools, and supporting key departmental initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of financial acumen, technical expertise, and operational efficiency to help drive the effectiveness of the legal function.

Key Responsibilities:

Budgeting & Cost Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor the legal department's budget, including forecasting and variance analysis.
    • Collaborate with the Finance Department in developing, managing, and forecasting the annual legal budget.
    • Track legal spend across matters, vendors, and business units; partner with Finance to ensure accurate reporting and cost control.
    • Proactively identify and report to the General Counsel on trends or changes in planned spend.
  • Lead Outside Counsel Management Program
    • Optimize the use of the ebilling system.
    • Enforce legal billing guidelines.
    • In partnership with managing attorneys, facilitate engagement letters for new matters.
    • In partnership with managing attorneys, evaluate outside counsel performance.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Legal Technology Implementation & Management

  • Lead the implementation, enhancement, and ongoing management of legal technology, including:
    • eBilling platform (Brightflag)
    • Contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools
    • Matter management systems
    • Legal ticketing system
  • Serve as the primary liaison with IT and external vendors for system integrations, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Train legal team members and stakeholders on technology tools and best practices.

Departmental Support & Strategic Initiatives

  • Identify opportunities and best practices to drive quality and efficiency across the legal department.
  • Support the planning, development, execution and tracking of legal department initiatives, including process improvements, policy and program rollouts, and compliance programs.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor KPIs and departmental performance.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects involving Legal, Finance, IT, Procurement, Sales Teams and other departments.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or certification in business, project management, or legal operations preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in legal operations, finance, or project management, preferably in a corporate legal department or law firm.
  • Experience and understanding of legal technology platforms and data analytics.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs, Teams, Power BI, and Adobe Pro
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience managing budgets and identifying cost optimization opportunities.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Passion for process improvement and operational excellence.
  • Project Management or Business Process certification (e.g., PMP, CLM, CBPP)

Additional Information

This position is a Hybrid role, requiring 2-3 days onsite at5020 Weston Pkwy, Cary, NC.
