The H&S Family of Bakeries are a network of 10 bakeries and multiple distribution centers along the East Coast all committed to one thing: producing the best quality bread products. H&S Family of Bakeries includes Northeast Foods, H&S Bakery and Schmidt Baking Co. The Quality Systems Manager (QSM), ensures predictable, consistent, high-quality products are distributed to customers daily. The ideal QSM champions the quality effort among employees in all departments; integrates quality and efficiency; stops unacceptable product from leaving the bakery; and facilitates the development of a quality-oriented culture that focuses on continuous improvement.
- Manage the systems that drive quality in the bakery
- Establish and integrate product standards (specs) including visuals on the production floor
- Manage SPC data collection, process measurements, process analysis, reporting and recommendations for improvement
- Ensure product quality evaluation including daily product scoring and lab analyses are complete
- Monitor customer complaints and introduce problem solving solutions
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs). Facilitate meetings based on KPIs to ensure that they are quality focused, streamlined and the measured results continue to improve
- Develop and conducts plant employee training on quality principles and product scoring calibration
- Identify areas of opportunity to reduce waste and improve efficiency
- Ensure compliance with food defense programs
- Manage food safety programs
- 2+ years in a manufacturing/production floor environment
- Able to generate written and verbal communications clearly and distinctly, e.g. written responses to consumer complaints and to auditors
- Available to work an occasional flexible schedule, e.g., work a weekend quarterly during off shift hours for training and Q&A
- Performance of other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job
- Ability to use general Office equipment including computer, calculator, and copy machine
- 3+ years of experience using Outlook and Excel in a professional setting
- Complete all annual safety training, ergonomics, and any specialized and/or skill ware training this is required to perform his/her job
- Able to view products and determine adherence to quality control standards including size, shape, color, cut, etc.
- Demonstrated interest and capability to learn and be trained on the preferred qualifications outlined in this posting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and industry training certifications
- 3+ years of experience in Quality Assurance systems implementation and management
- 3+ years of experience in accountability for design and/or enforcement of processes is ideal
- AIB graduate or baking/industry certification
- Experience in baked goods products
- 3+ years of cross-functional business partnering at executive leadership levels is ideal
- Able to interpret and support GMPs, sanitation processes, product recall procedures, food safety and development & implement related policies
- Working knowledge and understanding of theory, principles and applications of statistics and statistical process control
- Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation
- Able to test products using applicable equipment and tools
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and/or six sigma and continuous improvement methodologies
- 3+ years of experience working as the lead or key member of a quality team
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and push and pull heavy wheeled equipment or carts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time during a shift, maintaining a normal range of motion in all extremities.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and crouch to access equipment, tools, or materials.
- Ability to use arms, hands and fingers to handle or operate machinery, tools or controls.
- Ability to perceive and respond immediately to visual and audible safety alerts and warnings to ensure the safety of self and others in a fast-paced, hazard-sensitive environment with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and airborne particles, odors and fumes.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or work platforms as required by the position.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods using office equipment and computer systems.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective clothing for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
