Position Announcement

The Psychology Department at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy, with a projected start date of July 1, 2026. The preferred candidate will possess a terminal degree in MFT and be licensed or license-eligible in the State of Utah. Teaching responsibilities will include both graduate and undergraduate courses, with primary responsibilities within the MFT Master's program. Candidates with experience in child and adolescent treatment are preferred.

The Psychology Department is a robust, growing program that includes its undergraduate program and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy. The department and program are situated in a new, 120,000 square foot building on the UT campus with dedicated space for a community mental health clinic. The Psychology Department, including the MFT program, plays an important role in fulfilling the university's mission. UT is particularly welcoming to active learning modalities in our coursework. Similarly, we encourage and value faculty scholarship that involves student researchers, as well as scholarship that informs the faculty member's teaching.


Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours of courses each academic year, consisting of courses within the undergraduate psychology program and graduate MFT program. Course assignments will be made by the Department Chair in consultation with the MFT Program Director, to address departmental needs and the expertise of faculty. Course assignments will include:
    • Undergraduate courses such as Abnormal Psychology and Introduction to Marriage and Family Therapy.
    • Graduate courses such as play therapy, working with families with children, research in MFT, and practicum.
  • Participate in teaching and learning seminars and activities designed to promote and develop instructional knowledge and skills.
  • Attend department, division, and college faculty meetings, and work with other faculty and staff in improving the overall education experience of Psychology majors and MFT graduate students.
  • Engage in scholarship and/or creative activity appropriate to a teaching university. UT values both scholarship of discovery and scholarship of pedagogy within the context of our teaching mission (clinical work associated with mental health therapy is an accepted form of scholarly engagement when accompanied by other scholarly production such as conference presentations or publications).
  • Create programing and scholarship that facilitates growth towards Utah Tech becoming an accredited program
  • Facilitate the development and growth of a Utah Tech community clinic, supporting both developing therapists as well as support the community with mental health care.
  • Supervise student internship experiences (for both graduate and undergraduate students), helping students integrate evidence-based academic concepts with practical internship experience.
  • Participate in service activities, including on department, college, or university committees including work towards accreditation for Utah Tech.
  • Maintain a scholarly agenda that is appropriate to a teaching university like Utah Tech.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited college or university required. ABD may be considered if degree is awarded prior to July 2025.
  • Evidence of potential for successful teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, administrators, and community organizations to develop ways to improve the educational experience for our students.
  • Licensed or able to get licensure in the state of Utah as an MFT.
  • Is or can become an AAMFT approved supervisor prior to hire date.
  • Emphasis in child and adolescent treatment preferred.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2026, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2026. Annual salary of $64,000-$67,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
