DESCRIPTION

The Family Services Specialist (FSS) at Lifesharing is primarily responsible for supporting grieving families in a hospital setting faced with end-of-life decisions and facilitating organ and tissue donation discussions with potential donor families. The FSS provides emotional support to potential donor families and develops a collaborative plan to discuss organ and tissue donation options for their loved one. The FSS leads the donation conversation and continues to work with the donor family throughout the donation process by completing all donation-related paperwork, providing end-of-life support, and serving as a liaison to the hospital for social services needs.

Additionally, this position will serve as a liaison for transferring authorized donors to centralized donor recovery units. The FSS will facilitate the transfer and be a resource for the family throughout the donation process.

This position requires a high level of emotional intelligence, self- awareness, maturity and genuine compassion for others. Must be able to confidently walk into and remain calm during challenging and uncertain situations.

Lifesharing provides services 24/7 requiring this position to participate in a call schedule rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science plus, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.

  • Four (4) or more years of experience in the organ and tissue donation field or related health care field.

  • Experience working with families in grief and/or crisis situations.

  • Ability to work variable shifts, variable work locations, holidays, weekends, and overtime when required. Participate in on-call rotation.

  • Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, commitment to high standards, discriminating judgment and high level of ethics.

  • Demonstrated self-starter who is accountable and meticulous in details.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting while exercising initiative and sound judgement.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computers and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Pastoral Care, or related field
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish.
  • Knowledge of organ and/or tissue donation.
  • Working knowledge of navigating and charting in electronic medical records.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, frequent overtime, and provide on-call coverage to area hospitals.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $68,257 - $84,919 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.69 - $40.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
