Position Announcement

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Instructor of the Practice position in Computer Science to begin July 1, 2026. The preferred Assistant Professor candidate will possess a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline. For an Instructor of the Practice position an MS with professional expertise will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience in Data Science but candidates with adequate teaching assistant experience are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop courses in Data Science and Computer Science. The ideal candidate will integrate computational methods with statistical reasoning to embody the modern practice of Data Science. This role requires expertise in data science, machine learning, data visualization, and statistical modeling. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses in our expanding data science curriculum, helping to shape the future of this program at a polytechnic institution committed to an "active learning, active life" approach.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a standard load of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Data Science and Computer Science.
  • Engage and mentor students in active and experiential learning, with a focus on progressive developmental experiences.
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers both formally and informally, guiding them in their academic and professional paths.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of programs and projects within the department.
  • Conduct public and private outreach activities for the Data Science program.
  • Attend department, college, and university faculty meetings; program management and adhere to university policies.

  • A PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline with emphasis in Data Science required for Assistant Professor; a Master's degree with professional expertise is required for Instructor of the Practice.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service anticipated to begin January 1, 2026 or July 1, 2026. Annual salary for Instructor of the Practice is $74,000, and for Assistant Professor is $100,000 - $110,000, depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
