The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student to faculty ratio. About the Department/School/Area The Department of English is a diverse, dynamic, and interdisciplinary department with 45 tenure-line faculty and undergraduate and graduate degree programs in English and in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. Tenure-line faculty in the department teach a 2/2 at both the undergraduate and graduate level, in onsite, hybrid, and online modalities. The Technical Communication and Rhetoric program offers a BA, MA, and PhD in onsite, hybrid, and online delivery modalities. We also offer graduate certificates in Grants & Proposals and in Teaching Technical Communication. With around 120 students in our robust graduate program, our 15 faculty have opportunities to teach graduate courses in our areas of interest. Our program affords excellent facilities, including communication-rich classrooms, and opportunities to conduct research through the User Experience Lab, the Media Lab, and the Letterpress Studio. Major/Essential Functions In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Organization Texas Tech University Faculty Qualifications 1. PhD in English, Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Technical Communication, or a related field by time of hire;
2. At least 2 years of demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher at the college level (experience as a graduate student counts); and
3. Research focus in technical communication, rhetorical studies, or composition/writing studies;
4. A record of peer-reviewed publication that has contributed to the discipline and/or a research and publishing agenda that clearly demonstrates promise in the field. Preferred Qualifications In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: 1. Applicants with administrative experience in program, department, college, university, and/or professional levels;
2. Applicants with 2 years of online teaching experience; and 3. Applicants with a record of scholarship supported by funding as evidenced by internal and/or external grants.
