Responsibilities
Be a trailblazer! The External Wholesaler is a brand-new high impact role driving financial growth and market initiatives, boosting agent engagement, and uncovering opportunities through advanced case consultation and joint appointment support across Market Areas. External Wholesalers serve as the primary field representative for financial services for Investment Advisor Representatives (IAR) agents in their assigned Market Area. In this job you are primarily responsible for:
- Leading market engagement: serving as the main field representative to consult with registered representative agents and drive financial services business growth in the market area
- Building agent relationships: strengthening connections with registered representative agents, focusing on complex and strategic financial services opportunities
- Representing the company: promoting engagement in financial services at market and enterprise events through virtual and in-person engagement
- Facilitating joint appointments: helping to lead large, complex joint meetings to support needs-based financial services conversations
- Providing advanced consultation: guiding registered representative agents on complex financial services cases and holistic business owner strategies
- Coaching agents: supporting registered representative agents in using advanced financial services planning tools and conducting comprehensive financial discussions
- Collaborating strategically: partnering with internal wholesaler teams to share intelligence and coordinate unified registered representative agent support
- Mentoring team members: influencing and guiding internal wholesalers on marketing priorities and best practices
- Sharing market feedback: providing insights to shape support activities and respond to registered representative agent and market needs
- Identifying business opportunities: monitoring market trends and inspiring registered representative agents to increase financial services activity and deepen product understanding
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in financial services or sales leadership, showcasing strong expertise and a genuine passion for the financial services industry.
- Strong track record of influencing business owners and implementing market area strategies that transform current financial services and prepare organizations for future opportunities and challenges.
- Proven ability to shape and influence the direction of financial services within an enterprise.
- Expertise in identifying and pursuing innovative approaches to enhance financial services outcomes.
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with senior field leaders, advisory, and regulatory bodies within the financial services market.
- Ability to coach agents in hosting needs-based conversations covering a spectrum of customer needs.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
- Presentation skills - effectively conveys information in a clear and professional manner to internal and/or external individuals/groups.
- Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with others to reach mutually beneficial solutions with both internal and external individual/groups.
Additional Details
- Selected candidates will be required to possess and/or obtain (within approximately the first 10 weeks) a Securities Industries Essentials (SIE), Series 6 license, and Series 63, Series 65 or equivalent and Life/Health, Variable license.
- Selected candidates will have a maximum of two attempts to successfully pass the required securities licensing exams
- If unsuccessful after two attempts on any exam, employment may be terminated
- Employees will be eligible for incentive pay once all required licenses are obtained
- Fingerprint, credit check and background check are required for sponsorship of FINRA licensing
- Employees must successfully obtain all other applicable licensing and certifications for role including, but not limited to, LTC Certification, Annuities Certification and potential state securities licensing, as applicable.
- Employees may be required to sign the Acknowledgement of Policy on Personal Account Transactions
- May be required to work flexible, non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays, based on operational needs and workload
- Selected employees must maintain a valid license to lawfully operate vehicles as requested by the company. MVR check will be completed as part of the pre-employment process.

Incumbency: This position will have a 12-month incumbency period beginning on the effective date of the position, which must be met before the employee can post for any other lateral State Farm position. Posting for promotional positions are not subject to this incumbency period. Employees may be eligible for a geographic differential based on the location from which an employee is working. Employees may be eligible to participate in incentive programs, including a quarterly bonus and an annual bonus, once all licensing and securities sponsorship/registration is obtained. The total compensation opportunity, including a fixed base salary and potential incentive pay eligibility for this position, may range from $150,000 - $300,000 with the possibility for incentive earnings to exceed this range. No amount of incentive compensation is guaranteed. [NOTE: Candidates who need to obtain Securities and other licensing will be in a non-exempt status while obtaining their licensing. The annual rate of pay will be based on a 38.75 work week at an hourly rate based on applicable annualized salary.] Remote Work Arrangement: The External Wholesaler role is a remote position which requires the selected candidate to work out of his/her home and will require periodic travel to conduct/attend meetings and/or seminars, training, conferences. For San Francisco candidates: Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. Securities Licensing This position requires you to obtain/maintain all applicable FINRA licensing exams (Securities Industry Essentials, Series 6, Series 63, and Series 65 or equivalent), sponsorship from State Farm VP Management Corp (SFVPMC) and State Farm Investment Management Corp. (SFIMC), and that you become registered and remain in good standing as required by SFVPMC, SFIMC and FINRA. To confirm eligibility for sponsorship, you will complete fingerprinting and a credit check. This is in addition to the pre-employment background check. You will be required to obtain sponsorship and pass all applicable FINRA exam(s) within approximately the first 10 weeks after studying begins.
