POSITION SPECIFICS

The Agricultural Analytical Services Laboratory (AASL) is hiring a Laboratory Analyst. The AASL provides analytical testing and research-based recommendations to support sustainable resource management decisions. The lab offers comprehensive analyses of soil, water, plant tissue, manure, compost, and other agricultural materials. The fee-based services are available to all University faculty and staff as well as the general public.

This position plays an integral role at AASL. Primary responsibilities are in the Soil Fertility Program, but the position also assists the Compost, Manure, Water, and Plant Analysis Programs. Position requires attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Typical duties include:

  • Sample receipt

  • Preparation for analysis (sample grinding, weighing, extraction, and filtration),

  • Preparation of reagents and extraction solutions

  • Operation of analytical instrumentation and equipment

  • Data entry/import

All tasks are performed following laboratory standard operating procedures. This position operates a university vehicle daily for pickup and delivery of samples and supplies.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Agricultural and Environmental Lab Technologist - Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree No prior relevant work experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Agricultural and Environmental Lab Technologist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

Additional Preferred Education, Experience:

Preference will be given to candidates that possess a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural or environmental science or a related field and laboratory experience testing soil, agricultural, or environmental samples. Candidates should be proficient in the use of MS Excel and Word and have experience using relational databases (e.g., Filemaker, MS Access).

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $34,800.00 - $55,500.00.
