JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

We are seeking one undergraduate student in Forest Resources and one undergraduate student in Wildlife and Fisheries Science to join our team during the 2025 fall season, with possibility to extend it through spring 2026.

The selected students will work as crew members on a multidisciplinary research project focused on Carbon Stewardship and Bird Habitat in central Pennsylvania. As part of this project, students will also have the opportunity to develop a personal capstone project.

Duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Processing audio data collected from ARU (autonomous recording unit) devices
  • Identifying bird songs and calls by sound
  • Learning and applying classifier software to identify bird species
  • Writing reports and contributing to data summaries
  • Collaborating with project staff and being open to co-authoring publications

Qualifications: The candidates must have knowledge of basic informatics, basic forest ecology and silviculture, and work in a team with a research technician. Ideally, but not required, the candidate will have previous experience working outdoors identifying plants and birds (by song and sight) in Pennsylvania forests.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
