About the Job

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available for a two-year program in the laboratory of Brendan Dougherty within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical School.

The successful candidate will work towards an understanding of how sex hormones influence respiratory function and the expression of respiratory neuroplasticity using rodent models.
Concurrent research lines exploring the intersection of sex hormone signaling and respiratory neuroplasticity in aging, spinal cord injury, and stress models offer multiple opportunities for development of an independent research program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on resume):

Ph.D.
Prospective candidates are expected to have research experience in respiratory neurobiology with the desire to grow skills and knowledge in other areas.
A background in rodent neurobiology models is required, including experience in rodent surgery, phrenic nerve and/or hypoglossal nerve recordings or EMG recordings of respiratory muscles, and immunohistochemistry analysis using Image J or Imaris software.
Our team works within a vibrant research community at the University of Minnesota with significant expertise in sex hormone biology providing breadth of possibilities beyond our own laboratory.
Strong interpersonal and writing skills are desired.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Expected annual stipend will be $62,232, adjusted for the next fiscal year, according to University and Medical School guidelines.
