About the Job

The Resident Education Director is a dedicated member of the Department of Emergency Medicine team and is responsible for the management, coordination, and development of resident physician clinical rotations at the UMMC East and West Bank Emergency Departments. This leadership role ensures rotating resident physicians are oriented and scheduled, provides a single point of contact for communication, and receives appropriate feedback and evaluation during their rotation in the UMMC ED.

The director will serve as a liaison between the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Departments of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Psychiatry; as well as any future Departments who may provide rotating resident physicians to the UMMC EDs.

This leadership role reports directly to the Department of Emergency Medicine Chairperson.

Job Responsibilities:

Orientation and Scheduling

* Develop, and maintain, and distribute orientation material for new resident physician
rotators
* Develop, maintain, and distribute schedules for rotating residents in accordance with
program and GME restrictions
* Incorporate resident schedules into overall departmental schedule via Qgenda

Interdepartmental Liaison:

* Serve as the point of contact for interdepartmental communication with residency program
GME leadership and coordinators regarding rotating residents
* Perform an annual review with Departments providing residents regarding expectations,
feedback, and opportunities to enhance and expand educational offerings
Education, Feedback and Evaluation:
* Collect, summarize, and provide an end-of-rotation evaluation in accordance with the
expectations of their home program
* Conduct a mid-rotation 'check in' either virtually or in person
* Provide real-time feedback and education regarding any immediate concerns identified on
shift
* Develop, maintain, and distribute educational materials for rotating residents

Policy & Leadership:

* Develop reasonable expectations and guidelines for on-shift expectations, evaluation
criteria
* Provide feedback and updates at DEM meetings as needed

Qualifications

Required:
* Clinically active emergency medicine physician
* Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
* Demonstrated interest in resident education and engagement
Preferred:
* Fellowship training in Medical Education or similar related field
* Experience with GME education, scheduling, and evaluation

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $55,000-$185,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
