Johnson Controls is seeking an Electrical Engineer responsible for the design, development, validation, and support of active magnetic bearing (AMB) control system hardware for our JCI-Synchrony Engineering team! This position is onsite at our Salem, VA, facility. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able to relocate. How you will do it
Design, develop, and validate new and updated Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) control system hardware and firmware Develop schematics Select components Design printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) Develop manufacturing test protocols and fixtures for PCBAs Configure and program FPGAs Support existing AMB hardware designs Manage, through research and validation, critical component substitutions as they become obsolete or otherwise unavailable Investigate root cause of failures in production and fielded electronics; implement countermeasures to address failures in new designs Update PCBA designs to reduce costs and improve reliability and performance Support PCBA contract manufacturers via technical consultation and documentation updates Serve as technical interface with third parties PCBA contract manufacturers - including automated test development PCBA design and layout services FPGA design services
What you will need Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electronics, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering 3+ years embedded control system hardware development experience in a manufacturing environment Development of application-optimized real-time closed-loop control systems Critical component selection and high-speed interface design such as experience with microprocessor, DSP, FPGA, memory devices, serial communications (USB, Ethernet), and peripheral interfaces VHDL / Verilog Data converter optimization (D/A, A/D) Distributed power supply topologies Device-to-device serial interfaces (SPI, I2C, RS485, etc.) PWM control theory High-speed signal and EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) PCBA layout considerations Thermal management design Familiarity with advanced electronic diagnostic and laboratory equipment Programming & diagnostic tools (FPGA, JTAG emulators)

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $86,000 - $115,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, andabilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
