Responsibilities

The Respiratory Care Manager will provide operational and administrative leadership to Respiratory Care Services employees. Responsible for the hiring and development of new employees, monitoring their competency and the overall appropriateness of care provided to patients and their families. The Respiratory Care Manager collaborates with other disciplines on issues related to the effective management of patient care.

  • Interview and select candidates who have appropriate clinical skills and professional characteristics to match patient/family and program needs.
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with employees regarding specific performance expectations.
  • Plan and conduct formal performance reviews that are timely, ongoing and objective and submit necessary documentation.
  • Delegate activities and projects to staff and supervise their accomplishment.
  • Direct adjustments in the programs' staffing patterns to reflect changes in care requirements, patient census, and staffing resources.
  • Identify and resolve complex or recurring operational problems and consult with the Respiratory Care Services Director and/or Medical Director.
  • Monitor state and federal regulations and those of other regulatory and accrediting agencies pertaining to departmental functions.
  • Participate in the evaluation and purchase of equipment and products.
  • Develop and implement patient care delivery systems that are patient and family centered, evidence based, and encourage professional practice of staff that results in high quality and cost-effective care outcomes.
  • Assure that appropriate quality monitoring occurs, and findings are used to improve practice and reduce potential for patient complications.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge by acting as a clinical resource to staff and consultant to other departments.
  • Supervises the operation and documentation of the blood gas laboratory
  • Maintains competency and assists in a clinical role, as needed

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care program.
  • Bachelor's degree required - BSRC, BS, Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist through the NBRC (RRT).
  • Current BLS certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Current ACLS certification.
