Thrift Store Clerk

*** 20 hours or less per week Monday- Saturday, between the hours of 8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.***

**Pay Rate: $13.50 Per Hour**

Summary/Primary Purpose: To provide a staff position with the responsibility of baling clothing, shoes, purses or plush, stacking and unstacking bales of clothing and loading trucks when bales of clothing, purses and plush are sold.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Filling hopper of baler.
• Tying off baler with provided wire, removing completed bales with lift and stacking in warehouse.
• Loading trucks when bales of clothing, shoes, purses or plush are sold. Responsible for emptying barrels of donated goods that are to be warehoused for later use.
• Maintain cleanliness of warehouse.
• Orderly structure of contents in warehouse.
• Complete salvage invoices.
• If no baling duties are available then baler would work in the processing room and the front of the retail store. Duties include taking donations, sorting donations, testing electronic donations, running the register, and housekeeping duties.
• Some mowing responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Qualifications:

• Must be able to lift and move up to 100 lbs.
• Operate top loading clothing baler.
• Must be able to work unsupervised.
• Must be able to complete salvage invoices.
• Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously

• Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
• Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
• Strong independent judgement.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job and in a retail setting, and while performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
