Safety/Quality Engineer - Kennedy Space Center

Location: Merritt Island, FL | Contract: LASSO II | Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required

Astrion is seeking a Safety/Quality Engineer to join our team at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), supporting the LASSO II Contract. This is a full-time, onsite role where you'll ensure mission-critical operations are conducted safely, effectively, and in compliance with NASA, federal, and industry standards.

As part of our safety and quality team, you'll perform hands-on work in laboratory and operational environments, support hazardous testing, and provide oversight of Astrion's AS9100D Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with NASA and external customer requirements.

This position is ideal for a safety-conscious, detail-driven engineer who thrives in dynamic environments where human spaceflight, cutting-edge technology, and mission success converge.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct site safety, health, and quality assessments across operational and research programs.

  • Provide oversight and implementation support for Astrion's AS9100D-compliant Quality Management System.

  • Support hazardous operations at CRCA, LETF, and Field Projects, including work involving high-pressure gases, toxic materials, hypergolic propellants, confined spaces, and work-at-height.

  • Review and approve Work Authorization Documents and perform hazard analyses.

  • Investigate and resolve compliance issues in coordination with NASA, government agencies, and project teams.

  • Partner with laboratory operations to maintain compliance with federal, NASA, and state safety and occupational health standards.

  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure safe and efficient operations in high-consequence environments.

  • Contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement in support of space exploration missions.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Quality, or related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in safety, quality, or occupational health engineering.

  • Skills:

    • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer-facing skills.

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and SharePoint.

    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.

    • Physical ability to climb stairs/ladders, wear PPE, and work both indoors and outdoors in a hazardous testing facility environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • AS9100D Lead Quality Auditor certification.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

  • Industrial Hygiene background or field experience.
