The Facility Services Department is focused on maintaining a safe, clean and effective environment for the Laboratory community as well as providing the infrastructure that aligns with and supports the research initiatives in a high quality, and cost effective manner. The Operations & Maintenance team in our department provides the hands-on skills and expertise to enable our stewardship of the facilities. Functionally they engage in the maintenance and upkeep of electrical and mechanical systems, HVAC, grounds, custodial, construction, and more.

Job Description

The Operations Center Console Operator, within the Facility Services Department (FSD), is responsible for receiving and responding to calls and emails reporting facility-related issues such as lighting, HVAC, power, leaks, odors, and other building concerns.



Key responsibilities include:




  • Responding to and coordinating resolution of maintenance requests.



  • Monitoring the Laboratory Building Management System (BMS), including adjusting set points and performing basic diagnostics to assist trades personnel in resolving environmental control issues.



  • Entering trouble calls into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), creating work orders, and dispatching mechanics as required.



  • Operating communications equipment including two-way radios, cell phones, and pagers to coordinate facility responses.



  • Arranging for and scheduling security guard support and contacting service support contractors as needed.



  • Supporting administrative and operational tasks, including escorting visitors and contractors, inspecting fire extinguishers, conducting fuel tank readings and inspections, and other duties as assigned.



  • Providing customer service to members of the Laboratory community while working closely with FSD staff and clients.



  • Working Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend assignments. Full staffing is required during two annual site-wide utility shutdowns.



Requirements

  • Interpersonal & Customer Service Skills: Ability to interact with diverse staff, clients, and contractors with professionalism and excellent customer service.
  • Self-Starter: Able to work under minimal supervision with strong organizational skills.
  • Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and perform well under pressure.

    Technical Skills:





      • Familiarity with facility systems (HVAC, lighting, power, controls).
      • Ability to monitor and make adjustments in the BMS.
      • Experience with CMMS systems (preferred).




    • Communication Tools: Ability to operate radios, cell phones, pagers, and other communication equipment.
    • Physical Requirements: Ability to walk frequently, climb stairs, and perform inspections; occasional lifting may be required.
    • Experience: Prior customer support experience strongly preferred.
    • Education: Associate's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls a plus. high school diploma is required.
