The Position

East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) invites qualified employees to apply for this Limited Term opening (up to 2 years) in the Equipment Support Section of the Operations and Maintenance Department. Paving Crew Foreman (Concrete Finishing) is responsible for the planning, coordination, direction, and evaluation of the work of crews engaged in concrete finishing work, including placement and repairs on sidewalks, curbs, gutters, driveways, steps, catch basins, meter boxes, hydrants, gate pots, and related structures. They may also work as skilled crew members on an as-needed basis and perform related work as assigned.

The scope of job duties ranges from pre-job planning and scheduling through completion of job and evaluation of overall crew, as well as individual, performance.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

*Knowledgeable in concrete finishing and repair methods, techniques, tools, materials and equipment

*Proficient in organizing, planning, coordinating, directing and evaluating the work of crews and providing for their training

*Prepared to manage assigned projects including pre-job planning, prioritizing, estimation of labor, material and equipment needs, scheduling, and inspecting and monitoring work in progress and upon completion for compliance with established regulations and standards

*Able to read, interpret and work from complex maps, drawings, specifications, material lists, and survey markers

*Able to prepare complete and accurate written and computerized records and reports, and make accurate arithmetic computations

*Safety conscious and prepared to observe and enforce safety practices and precautions relevant to paving and concrete construction work

*Able to communicate clearly, orally and in writing

*Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Requirements

1. A high school diploma or its equivalent; and,

2a. Two (2) years of experience on a paving crew plus two (2) years of experience in either concrete repair or leading and directing a crew engaged in the installation and maintenance of underground pipelines; or,

2b. Four (4) years of experience on a paving crew, two (2) years of which must have been equivalent to EBMUD's classification of Heavy Equipment Operator, Truck Driver II, or Paving Raker A, B, or C; or,

2c. Four (4) years of experience in concrete finish work which included at least two (2) years equivalent to EBMUD's classification of Concrete Finisher II, or which included at least three (3) years equivalent to EBMUD's classification of Concrete Finisher I.

Other Requirements:

Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and in proximity to traffic, poison oak and insects. Must be willing to work overtime on an extended shift as needed. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
