POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Manager is responsible for oversight of all Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation Communications efforts including, but not limited to strategic implementation of public relations, internal/external communications, development communications, community relations and employee communications. This role supports the Director of Communications with developing and implementing PR and Communication plans, including community engagement and brand efforts. This industry expert provides guidance and interaction with resort leadership, Alterra leadership and communications counterparts across the enterprise; managing collaborations between departments, community stakeholders, resorts, third parties and more.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Public Relations Planning and Execution
- Assist in the development and management of the annual public relations plan
- Delivering compelling brand stories to secure media coverage across local, national, and international outlets
- Main point of contact for resort media requests
- Develop and maintain long term relationships with local, domestic and online media contacts including television, radio, print, online, social, airline, lodging and travel industry partners, influencers and media stakeholders
- Initiate and support Media tours, and visits
- Act as resort spokesperson or assign appropriate spokesperson when needed
- Assist/Manage Crisis Communications Plan creation and implementation as needed.
- Assist Alterra Mountain Company's PR needs including resort development, Ikon pass messaging and company-wide campaigns
- Manage contracted PR and other third-party agencies/relationships including domestic
- Manage onsite press centers for events, as needed
- Oversee PR specific blogs including supporting marketing tactics, guest/community education and preventative reputation impacts
- Write and distribute resort press release, media alerts
- Assist marketing team with copywriting and editing needs; Unify all external messaging to contribute to brand reputation management
- Assist Corporate Responsibility, Sustainability, and Doing Good messaging/recognition
- Manage media outreach lists
- Manage snow messaging and media placement for weather content, including creation and distribution; contact management, etc.
- Assist with Airline Summit
- Ensure consistency in internal and external messaging across all resort business units
Internal Communications
- Work with Director to create and manage internal communications plan strategy
- Strategize and manage overall approach to Field Guide employee communication tool
- Collaborate with necessary departments to create and deliver consistent on-brand narratives to staff
- Manage Employee Town Halls and VP Listening Sessions
- Support Director in crafting leadership messaging and talking points to ensure alignment between internal and external communications
- Work with the HR team to create and help manage an overall internal communication strategy
- Collaborate with Alterra Internal Communications Manager for enterprise-wide aligned messages
Stakeholder Engagement and Community Relations with Corporate Responsibility Director, Development Director, Resort Transformation Director (etc.)
- Monitor and track stakeholder feedback and community conversations
- Develop scenario-based communication plans, public statements, and FAQs based on
- Foster relationships with key brand influencers, local community stakeholders, industry contacts
- Support guest relations and reputation management by collaborating/assisting Guest Relations department with Medallia survey responses
- Assist social media specialist with public and direct messages
- Community outreach initiatives including managing Full Steam Ahead community engagement, speaking engagements, etc.
Other Duties As Assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in tourism and/or hospitality or development communications, or equivalent agency experience preferred
- Well-versed in standard industry practices related to professional communications and public relations, including print and digital media
- Proven project management experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and organizational skills required; copywriting experience
- Established working contacts and relationships with Colorado, national and international hospitality, travel, and mainstream media
- Experience in community relations, including identifying and engaging key stakeholders such as residents, community leaders, and city officials
- Experience with internal/employee communications
- Ability to facilitate strategic dialogue and problem-solving across multiple departments
- Must be a self-starter and capable of multitasking; adaptable and flexible
- Capable of representing the company in a professional and knowledgeable manner; comfortable on camera and doing live interviews
- Schedule flexibility including ability to work evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Availability to travel to domestic and international media events, meetings, conferences, and trade shows on behalf of the resort
- Preparedness to host frequent meal/event functions with media and VIP guests
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism preferred
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on a range of factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives.
Steamboat area base salary range: $60,000-$70,000 per year

- Intermediate skiing/snowboarding ability required
