Position Objective

The Operational Excellence Manager organizational processes and performance. They identify, assess, and prioritize improvement opportunities, working with leaders and employees to find root causes and solutions. A collaborative approach engages everyone in driving positive change. This role directs activities for continuous improvement, aiming for efficient operations, either personally or through other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Identifying Improvement Areas:



  • Analyze processes to find efficiencies and areas for improvement
  • Lead the business unit's efforts in identifying critical business gaps, selecting Rapid Improvement Events, and ensuring proper preparation, team selection, and execution of those events
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and ensure they are addressed as part of the management agenda


Developing Strategies:



  • Formulate action plans for efficiency and cost reduction
  • Enhance effectiveness
  • Assist in deploying the business unit strategic plan


Leading Initiatives:



  • Developing and articulating a vision for continuous improvement, and spearheading projects to implement enhancements


Monitoring Performance:



  • Track progress using improvement targets and benchmarking data
  • Measure benefits and share insights throughout the organization


Collaboration:



  • Build relationships with stakeholders to align on improvement concepts, processes, and solutions.
  • Network with internal/external resources to incorporate best practices into lean projects and the organization.
  • Prioritize teamwork by balancing responsibilities, welcoming feedback, building team spirit, and supporting group success over individual interests.


Communication



  • Maintain transparent communication by updating management on Project status and coordinating activities.


Organize



  • Collaborate with the leadership team to set and achieve goals through Lean initiatives. Work with key leadership functionally and strategically to enhance specific areas.
  • Establish metrics, deployment goals, and objectives to promote accountability across the organization.
  • Oversee the implementation of Lean programs from start to finish.
  • Manage the planning, facilitation, and completion of Lean projects to support cost reduction efforts.
  • Provide input and feedback to key leadership positions regarding process improvement opportunities.
  • Direct efforts to develop and deliver training.
  • Assess employees' performance in understanding and applying lean principles.
  • Monitor the activity level of continuous improvement teams and alert management if additional support is needed.
  • Keep current on lean performance principles and practices and inform the organization.
  • Organize, plan, review, and provide project status updates.
  • Model operational excellence and demonstrate leadership/change management behaviors.



Education and Qualifications

Education Requirements



  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required. Technical degrees in Engineering, Operations Management, or Business Administration are preferred.


Work Experience



  • Minimum of 5+ years in process improvement or similar role.
  • Familiar with Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies.
  • Skilled in monitoring and reporting performance metrics.
  • Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Lean processes and methodologies within a manufacturing environment. Experience with Value Stream Mapping, facilitating Kaizen events, and knowledge of lean tools and processes such as continuous flow, setup reduction, and pull systems.



REQUIRED PHYSICAL EFFORT

Duties are generally performed in a professional office environment that involves walking, stairs, extended periods of sitting, frequent use of computer screens, which may result in eye strain or fatigue-and the occasional need to lift up to 15 pounds. Minor distractions from general office noise and other activities may occur.

To promote wellness, ergonomic equipment, and regular breaks are encouraged.

If working on the production floor, the work environment includes being regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions. Work may also involve climbing up to 4-6 feet using ladders and crawling underneath rigs. May also be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required while on the production floor or testing area. PPE includes Hard Hat or Bump Cap, Safety Glasses & Steel Toe Shoes.
