Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer - Programmer is responsible for developing and optimizing CNC machine programs to support efficient and high-quality production operations. In addition to programming, the engineer will oversee tooling selection, setup, and lifecycle management to support machining processes. The Manufacturing Engineer - Programmer will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure manufacturing efficiency, tooling reliability, and product conformity.

Job Duties

  • Develops, verifies, and maintains CNC program for production using Mastercam and Vericut (or equivalent software) across 30+ machines.
  • Interprets technical drawings and CAD models to determine machining strategy.
  • Identifies and manages cutting tools for production processes.
  • Collaborates with Engineers/Techs to troubleshoot and optimize programs and tooling.
  • Works directly with tooling vendors to evaluate and implement tooling improvements.
  • Organizes and maintains documentation for tooling data, setup sheets and process control sheets.
  • Applies knowledge of functions, processes and capabilities of machine and equipment to determine product specific manufacturing solutions and be an analytical problem solver who goes beyond band-aids to identify root causes for optimal solutions.
  • Provides bidding information for potential new work. Will provide estimated time cycles, capital expenses and non-recurring costs.
  • Writes procedures for the operation of new or existing equipment.
  • Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment and investigates their potential applications. Recommends the incorporation of new technologies into company applications where feasible and practical, providing cost justifications for capital expenditures as needed.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement initiatives and implement Lean activities.
  • Assists in the onboarding and training of less experienced team members.
  • Provides advanced engineering to manufacturing departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

High school diploma is required. An associates degree in machining technology or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is preferred.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of 15 years of experience in creating and maintaining CNC programming and machining processes. At least five of those years must involve managing programming for 30+ CNC machines.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient knowledge of G and M-code.
  • Understanding of CNC machines and Fanuc/Siemens controllers.

  • High analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload in fast paced environment, effectively manage multiple tasks and projects and ability to implement sustainable processes.
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and experience in various problem-solving techniques.
  • Able to proficiently use Mastercam or similar CAM software.
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills and ability to influence team members outside reporting lines.
  • Strong planning, project management, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated history of going above and beyond for the team and customers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in mechanical principles, machining practices, the properties of metals, GD&T, and fixture design.

Tools

  • Microsoft Office.
  • Mastercam or similar CAM software.
  • Vericut or similar verification software.
  • CAD Software (Creo preferred).
  • ERP software (SAP preferred).
  • Windchill PLM or similar PLM software.

Licenses/Certifications

Mastercam Multi-Axis or Core Certification is preferred. Six Sigma Black belt certification is preferred.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment with some travel between buildings and to other locations required. May be exposed to loud noises, toxic chemicals, and dangerous machinery when on the plant floor. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
