GENERAL PURPOSE
The Pricing Manager plays a critical role in driving profitable growth across the global Herman Miller and Knoll brand portfolios. This role supports the development and execution of pricing strategies across both contract and retail channels by leveraging analytics, price modeling, and frameworks, as well as market intelligence. The Pricing Manager is responsible for informing pricing decisions, optimizing price structures, and improving pricing processes to enhance margin and revenue performance. Success in this role requires deep pricing expertise, strong technical acumen, and the ability to operate independently while driving collaboration across cross-functional teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Execute pricing strategies across global product categories, regions, and channels in partnership with product management, finance, and commercial teams.
- Lead the annual price increase planning and execution process, including analysis, recommendations, cross-functional coordination, and implementation.
- Lead pricing-related initiatives and own key processes from planning through execution, ensuring cross-functional alignment and measurable impact on profitability.
- Drive the development and implementation of pricing mitigation strategies to address competitive shifts, price erosion, and commodity or cost pressures.
- Analyze product-level and portfolio-level pricing performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to inform actions.
- Collaborate with teams across finance, sales, operations, and product management-often outside the pricing function-to ensure pricing insights drive informed decision-making.
- Analyze pricing-related risks and opportunities across markets, products, customers, channels, and regions; develop and present well-reasoned pricing recommendations to product and commercial leadership.
- Conduct competitive pricing and market analysis to inform strategic positioning and margin improvement.
- Monitor discounting behavior and price realization across channels, identifying trends and flagging potential misalignment with pricing strategies.
- Partner with Product and Finance to implement pricing changes, SKU updates, and lifecycle pricing adjustments.
- Create, manage, and continuously improve pricing tools, models, databases, and other pricing process components to support innovative and data-driven pricing decisions.
- Prepare dashboards, presentations, and pricing insights for cross-functional and leadership use.
- Serve as a point of contact for pricing-related questions, tools, and issue resolution across the organization.
- Provide guidance and support to junior team members or cross-functional partners in understanding pricing methodologies, tools, and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- At least 5-7 years of relevant experience in pricing, financial analysis, business analytics, or a related quantitative role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting pricing strategy, margin improvement, or revenue optimization in a complex business environment.
- Experience working in multi-channel or global organizations (contract and/or retail) is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to build pricing models, interrogate large datasets, and uncover actionable insights that drive margin and revenue growth.
- Proficient in data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, with a knack for turning complex analysis into compelling, easy-to-understand visuals and narratives.
- Deep understanding of core pricing concepts-including margin structure, discounting strategy, foreign exchange (FX) considerations, and competitive positioning-with the ability to apply them in real-world, high-stakes business decisions.
- Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to influence across functions and levels by combining data-driven storytelling with business acumen.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Growth mindset with intellectual curiosity, a bias for action, and a desire to continuously improve pricing outcomes, tools, and processes.
