Experienced and technically adept Director of Software Engineering to lead the development of our HRP/Safety SaaS application hosted on Azure Cloud. This role is ideal for a strategic leader with deep expertise in Microsoft .NET and MSSQL who can balance high-level architectural vision, process leadership, and hands-on technical problem-solving.

The Director will drive engineering excellence, guide the transition to a Kubernetes-based platform, Automated Testing, and ensure high scalability and reliability while keeping the team focused on delivering top priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Vision
    • Lead and mentor a cross-functional Agile engineering team to deliver high-quality, scalable SaaS solutions.
    • Align the long-term technical strategy and architecture for the platform with the companywide vision.
    • Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Technical Strategy & Architecture
    • Oversee architecture decisions, ensuring solutions align with business goals, scalability, and cloud best practices.
    • Drive modernization efforts, including migration to Kubernetes for improved reliability and scalability.
    • Collaborate with product and operations teams to reduce production downtime and improve system resilience.
  • Process & Delivery
    • Optimize Agile processes to keep teams focused on priorities and minimize distractions.
    • Establish engineering best practices for CI/CD, testing, and monitoring that align with overall company vision.
    • Define and track metrics for system uptime, performance, and delivery speed.
  • Hands-On Technical Support
    • Serve as a senior technical advisor capable of diving into complex .NET or SQL code to help solve high-impact issues.
    • Guide teams through complex debugging, performance tuning, and architectural decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering with 5+ years in a leadership role managing Agile teams.
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft .NET, MSSQL, and Azure Cloud architecture.
  • Experience leading cloud-native transformations and Kubernetes migrations.
  • Strong understanding of scalable SaaS architectures and high-availability systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to reduce production downtime and improve operational resilience.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of keeping teams focused on high-priority initiatives.
  • Ability to balance hands-off leadership with occasional hands-on coding and technical problem-solving.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with microservices architecture and containerization.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting) for Azure environments.
  • Experience working in regulated or high-security industries is a plus.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $130,000 to $172,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus or commission tied to achieved results.
