Surgical Implant Coordinator - Perioperative Services Position Summary

The Surgical Implant Coordinator - Perioperative Services is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of implant tracking, inventory control, and surgical scheduling related to biological and non-biological implants in the operating room (OR). This role ensures regulatory compliance, enhances patient safety, and supports perioperative operations by working directly with surgeons, vendors, and logistics teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the central liaison between surgeons, vendors, perioperative staff, and surgical scheduling teams to confirm implant requirements for upcoming procedures.

  • Coordinate surgical implants and OR equipment needs across multiple departments to ensure accurate preparation and delivery for scheduled cases.

  • Proactively monitor implant and medical inventory levels, rotate stock, and adjust par levels to align with procedural volume and supply chain trends.

  • Maintain accurate, real-time documentation of all implant use through electronic health records (EHRs) and implant tracking systems to support traceability, billing, and compliance.

  • Participate in daily perioperative huddles to align with surgical teams, address implant-related discrepancies, and ensure readiness of instruments and equipment.

  • Manage the procurement, receipt, storage, and distribution of both biological and non-biological implants, including orthopedic, cardiac, and spinal devices.

  • Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, Joint Commission standards, and hospital policies, particularly around implant documentation and chain-of-custody procedures.

  • Oversee product recalls, including documentation, patient tracking, and coordination with Patient Safety, Risk Management, and Supply Chain teams to ensure timely notifications.

  • Collaborate with logistics and supply chain to evaluate and improve implant storage layout and optimize space utilization in accordance with operating room efficiency goals.

  • Analyze usage data and make recommendations for supply chain optimization, forecasting, and cost-effective sourcing strategies.

  • Uphold patient safety by ensuring implants are within viability timelines and meet all quality assurance standards prior to use.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree OR 8 years of experience in healthcare logistics, perioperative services, inventory management, or surgical coordination.

  • Strong knowledge of implant coordination, operating room workflows, and medical device regulations.

  • Experience working with EHR platforms, implant tracking systems, or similar documentation tools.

Preferred:

  • Licensure or certification as LPN, RN, or CST (Certified Surgical Technologist).

  • Previous experience in a hospital perioperative environment, particularly in implant logistics or OR inventory control.

  • Familiarity with vendor management, recall coordination, and compliance reporting.
