Quality Engineer The Quality Engineer plays a vital, hands-on role in ensuring the structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, and production efficiency of welded components used in heavy equipment. This position blends quality inspection, industrial engineering support, and light product maintenance responsibilities to ensure products meet customer and industry standards while driving continuous improvement in the manufacturing process. Key Responsibilities: Quality Assurance * Inspect welded assemblies and components for conformance to specifications, using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, and blueprints * Perform dimensional and visual weld inspections according to AWS D1.1 or similar standards * Document non-conformances, assist in root cause analysis, and support corrective actions * Support weld procedure qualification, welder certifications, and audit readiness * Maintain detailed inspection records and communicate results to production and quality l Leadership Industrial Engineering Support * Assist with analyzing workflow and supporting improvements in weld fixture design, material handling, and layout optimization * Contribute to time studies and line balancing to reduce bottlenecks and increase throughput * Help develop and update standard work instructions and visual aids for welders and assemblers * Participate in lean manufacturing efforts such as 5S, kaizen events, and continuous improvement teams Product & Equipment Maintenance * Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of weld fixtures, jigs, and small mechanical tools * Support minor repairs or adjustments to fabricated components prior to or post-welding * Assist maintenance and engineering teams with upkeep of production equipment (e.g., welding tables, manipulators, hoists) * Ensure tools and equipment are properly calibrated and in safe working condition Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience in a heavy fabrication environment will be considered * Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting, preferably focused on heavy equipment or large welded structures * In-depth knowledge of welding processes including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, with a strong understanding of weld symbols, codes, and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1) * Familiarity with quality inspection techniques such as dimensional measurement, visual weld inspection, and non-destructive testing methods * Welding inspection certification (e.g., AWS Certified Welding Inspector - CWI) highly preferred or willingness to pursue certification within 12 months * Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and fabrication blueprints * Demonstrated experience supporting process improvement initiatives, time studies, or production optimization projects * Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and documentation skills with a high attention to detail * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, and quality teams * Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams Preferred Skills: * Familiarity with heavy fabrication, steel plate processing, and machining * Knowledge of root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.) and quality systems (ISO 9001, ASME) * Basic understanding of industrial engineering methods and lean manufacturing * Forklift and overhead crane certification a plus After you have applied, download our Staffmark Group WorkNOW App to receive real-time job offers and apply for additional opportunities.
