Job Description:

AMA is looking for a talented aerospace systems engineer to join our team in Hampton, VA in support of NASA Space Mission Concepts Research.The team works with the Space Mission Analysis Branch (SMAB) at NASA Langley. The role will provide architecture and vehicle sizing for the Human Landing System (HLS) Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) supporting the integrated performance (IP) architecture and systems analysis team.

Salary range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 commensurate with education and experience.

This is an on-site position located in Hampton, VA but telework is an option for Virginia, Maryland or Washington, DC residents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Parametric modeling of designs/concepts using Exploration Architecture Model for In-Space and Earth-to-Orbit (EXAMINE) tool

  • Ownership and monitoring of technical performance measures (TPM)

  • Lander availability modeling using discrete event simulation

  • Maintenance of vehicle properties report

  • Work in a highly collaborative environment to see solutions through to resolution as a member of a high functioning team

Minimum Qualifications

  • US citizenship

  • BS or higher in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent

  • Minimum three (3) years of engineering and concept development experience

  • Must be proficient in Excel and VBA programming

  • Must be proficient in Python, Matlab, or similar

  • Able to adapt to existing in-house tools, integrate off-the-shelf components, and develop new functionality from scratch where appropriate

  • Very strong oral and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work within a collaborative development environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced engineering degrees are highly encouraged to apply

  • Candidates should be able to look at existing components or systems, understand how they work, and know what changes need to be made to satisfy requirements
