Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnell East Office located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Platform Engineer provides 2nd and 3rd Level technical support services to staff and customers on software systems and hardware products and maintaining associated documentation for both Field and Corporate Workers. The incumbent provides end user computing hardware Life Cycle management to meet business needs. Troubleshoots very difficult infrastructure problems which can involve other groups such as server, network, and Information Security. Utilizes automation to removed wasted effort and improver user experience. The Platform Engineer responds and follows-up on internal and external customer support problems.

This Platform Engineer position will be an integral member of the Operational Technology (OT) Gas Compression team which manages infrastructure, applications, and components that are critical to the operations of Consumers Energy's Gas Transmission and Distribution (T&D) system. As part of this team, the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of challenging tasks and have opportunities to use and develop their skills to successfully complete these tasks. Additionally, this position is intended to be utilized for integrating complex industrial control processes with enterprise-level IT systems. If selected, the candidate will be working with several remote sites around the state of Michigan. The candidate will also provide IT/OT support for these sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement company standards for OS and application patching, anti-virus, backups, monitoring, and user management at remote sites
  • Testing critical applications on several key hardware platforms
  • Plan and deploy workstation and server hardware to remote sites. Rack and cable servers. Install and configure OS, storage and applications.
  • Support the real-time Gas Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for 24x7x365 systems coverage
  • Create and/or update process descriptions, diagrams and individual task documents
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with business partners
  • Meeting and audio visual support including VIP and Board of Directors support with after hours coverage as needed
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, analysis, repairs, or replacement hardware for PC's, and laptops when Tier I/II are unable to restore functionality. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and patched. Follow set policies and procedures when assisting clients to ensure proper handling of requests
  • Provide highly technical (2nd Level) hardware and software break-fix support to end users for tickets escalated from the Service Desk, Information Security, or other support groups. Provide timely responses to client and management requests. Give status updates on such requests on a regular basis
  • Assist end-users and IT specialists with 2nd and 3rd level technical support; Contribute knowledge and updated information to maintain the Help Desk SOPs and Training manuals for Tier I and Tier II support
  • Work with other groups to resolve technical problems that Tier I and Tier II are unable to resolve
  • Complete Life Cycle management for all end user computing devices. Assist with IT Asset Management responsibilities, which include updating and modifying asset records
  • Configure pcs, phones and tablets for network access. Provide coaching and feedback to entry level technicians
  • Monitor the Client Support ticket queue to ensure that tickets are addressed in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiar with Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft Intune
  • Familiar with Active Directory
  • Familiar with Computer Networking
  • Experience supporting SCADA and/or Distributed Control System (DCS) applications
  • Understanding of TSA Security Guidelines, NIST Frameworks, and API STD1164
  • Experience with Historian software administration
  • Experience operating in or supporting a Control Room environment
  • Understanding of natural gas pipeline operations and associated pipeline control functions, which include distributed control concepts, communications, telemetry, and related communications protocols

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems with 2 years in PC hardware, Software troubleshooting and diagnostics; automation, scripting, asset management, networking, active directory, SCCM
