Hennepin Healthcare is hiring for our Mobile Health Unit Clinic in headquartered in downtown Minneapolis. This role can be filled at the one of these levels: Clinical Associate (1.0 FTE), Ambulatory EMT (1.0 FTE), Medical Assistant (1.0 FTE), or Licensed Practical Nurse (0.9 FTE; 4-5 days/week, 8 hour shifts). This benefit-eligible role is union represented and primarily works day shift. Opportunities for tuition reimbursement and advancement. This role is supported by grant funding that is approved through June, 2026. ***This opening is currently set to work Monday-Friday day hours but may expand to include evenings and weekends as we grow. A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external MA or LPN candidates (current employees and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). The sign-on bonus amount is $1,500 for uncertified Medical Assistants and $3,000 for LPNs and Medical Assistants certified/registered through the AAMA, AMT, or NHCA. Pediatric Mobile Health Pediatric Mobile Health unit is a part of the Department of Pediatrics at Hennepin Healthcare. The mobile unit provides care to patients who are reluctant or unable to be seen in a traditional healthcare facility. The mobile unit team consists of a provider (pediatric nurse practitioner or pediatrician), an EMT and a student or resident. The team provides basic health assessments, well child exams, basic labs such, referrals back to a medical home and/or specialty care, and connects families to institutional or community resources that address social determinant of health needs. In addition to providing care to individual household families, the mobile unit also provides conducts pop-up clinics at schools, parking lots, places of worship or other venues in the community. In addition to basic health assessments, staff administer immunizations such as childhood vaccines, influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at pop-up clinics. Committed to creating a culturally competent and inclusive work and care environment, the Pediatric Mobile Health team partners with patients and their families to ensure access to outstanding care through a mobile unit primarily serving the pediatric patient population. As a member of the Pediatric Mobile Health team, the EMT will provide care in the mobile unit and at various locations and field work throughout the community. SUMMARY Clinical Associate - Under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), Manager/ Clinic Nurse Supervisor, charge nurse, and/or their delegates, the Clinical Associate performs basic direct patient care tasks and clinic support functions. Ambulatory EMT - Under general supervision, the Ambulatory EMT performs a wide variety of medical and clinic support functions. The Ambulatory EMT assists with indirect and direct patient care and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature as determined by established Policies, Procedures and Clinical Protocols within an Ambulatory setting.
Medical Assistant - Under the direction/ delegation of a physician(s) or other clinical care team members, the Medical Assistant contributes to the health and well-being of patients by providing quality and competent patient & family centered care/ services that meet HCMC and departmental standards. Licensed Practical Nurse - With the context of the Hennepin County Medical Center Relationship-Based Care Practice Model, under the direction of providers and/or the registered nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse assists providers in the delivery of care and performs nursing functions within the LPN scope of practice. RESPONSIBILITIES - Clinical Associate
- Rooms patients and obtains and documents vital signs, weight, height, head circumference (infants), and hearing and vision screenings
- Prepares exam rooms for patients and sets up rooms for basic procedures
- Cleans and/or sterilizes equipment to support infection control and OSHA standards
- Stocks and organizes clinic supplies
- Transports patients to and from tests
- Assists patients to transportation as needed
- Communicates observations and measurements outside of norm to RN or provider
- Labels and delivers tissue and fluid samples
- Initiates emergency response for medical emergencies and safety risks
- Performs point of care testing, such as glucometer testing
- Assists families with screening forms, such as developmental screen
- Answers the phones, performs data entry, and greets patients
- Simple appointment scheduling and limited registration tasks
- Runs reports
- Supports population health activities if appropriate, which may include outreach calls or care coordination
- Other duties as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES - Ambulatory EMT Performs direct patient care tasks after training and competency validation are complete. Direct patient care tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population
- Obtains and documents patient's reason for visit, vital signs including height and weight, patient screening questions, review allergies, and review medications
- Performs a variety of screening related to patient care including but not limited to vision, hearing, developmental, and pain and records information in to the patient's medical record
- Sets up and prepares patient for examination and/or procedure along with providing direct assistance to LIP
- Administers immunizations and medications within scope and under orders and direction from an LIP
- Collects, labels and processes specimens (e.g. phlebotomy, urinalysis, swabs) using appropriate technique recording information into the patient's medical record as indicated
- Assists nurse or LIP with procedures including those requiring sterile and clean technique
- Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed
- Documents and reports patient observations, care and outcomes of interventions in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Follows appropriate documentation procedure on paper for approved department specific procedures
- Engages and facilitate with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs
- Activates emergency response and/or initiates Basic Life Support when appropriate
- Provides standardized instruction based on written materials. Refer patients that require further teaching to a nurse or LIP
- Performs other duties as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES - Medical Assistant
- Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or other providers including: administer medications, injections, and immunizations, spirometry, tympanometry, apply minor dressings and splints, connect patients to portable monitors e.g. pulse oximetry, nebulization, glucose monitoring, and urethral catheterization and other clinical duties as delegated within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Set up for and provide direct assistance to physicians and other licensed care providers with medical examinations and procedures including: colposcopy, flex sigmoidoscopy, minor surgery
- Perform specimen collection including: blood draws, sputum samples and urine samples
- Perform hearing and vision screens and developmental testing
- Review patient information as required by the rooming process and competently enter information into the patient medical record
- Perform basic patient care activities including: place patients in rooms, take and chart vital signs
- Performs other duties as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES - Licensed Practical Nurse
- Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a provider or a registered nurse including: administer and dispense medications and immunizations
- Contribute to the initial and ongoing assessment of patients
- Obtain patient information and medical history including current medications, allergies, chief complaint, and immunization schedule
- Perform basic patient care activities including taking and charting vital signs
- Under the direction of a registered nurse, provide patient education from standardized teaching plans
- Transcribe orders, maintain telephone communication, and call prescription refills as directed by providers
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL/DRIVING
- Must have a valid driver's license or state equivalent and must have a satisfactory driving record including no more than two moving violations in the past three years of licensure
- Must complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course post hire.
- Must qualify for and maintain a Hennepin County motor vehicle operators permit-post hire
QUALIFICATIONS - Clinical Associate Minimum Education / Work Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
License/ Certifications:
- Active BLS/CPR certification, or obtained within 3 months of hire

- Successful completion of an approved training program for EMT

QUALIFICATIONS - Medical Assistant Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma or Associate's Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant school (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) that includes a clinical externship or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, as evidenced through educational transcripts
Preferred Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS - Licensed Practical Nurse Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an approved course in practical nursing
- Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
- Current CPR certification
