Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a key role in advancing quartz sand processing technologies, driving innovation to meet evolving market and application needs. You will contribute to the mechanical design, fabrication, and assembly of new and modified equipment, supporting prototyping, pilot testing, and seamless transfer to manufacturing. Your work will directly enhance product quality, yield, and throughput, while ensuring all processes meet rigorous EHS and quality standards. You will leverage statistical analysis and materials characterization techniques to troubleshoot, optimize, and validate cutting-edge processing solutions.

Job Description:

  • Assist in the development of new quartz sand processing utilizing technical expertise inmechanical engineering to meet new market/application demands.

  • Support the modification of existing sand processes and the development of new sand processing methods to impact product quality, throughput and yield.

  • Responsibilities include mechanical fabrication, machine assembly and modification, support of prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, and transfer to manufacturing.

  • Support documentation and procedure creation and modification regarding validation of process and equipment.

  • Support EHS compliance of new and modified processes.

  • Participate in problem solving (root cause analysis) during process development with internal EHS, Quality, etc.) groups as needed.

  • Apply statistical, surface and materials characterization tools for process improvement, failure analysis and troubleshooting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience in statistical design and analysis of experimental data including design of experiment, hypothesis testing and Gage R&R.

  • Demonstrated strong hands-on mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to do hands-on work in an industrial environment with necessary PPE.

  • Good written and oral English communication skills

  • Experience working with statistical software such as Minitab.

  • A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in Operations and/or Engineering in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in chemical processing of inorganic materials including acid treatments or thermal processing such as calcination.

  • Prior experience in mechanical assembly or repair of industrial equipment.

  • Experience with the operation and modification of ceramic processing equipment such as calciners, continuous acid leaching systems, wet and dry physical separation systems, and inline measurement or sampling systems.

  • Understanding of basic mechanical, electrical and electronics systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems involved in operation of batch and continuous furnaces.

  • Prior experience mentoring and coaching others with demonstrated Change Management skills.

  • Exhibits desire and courage to learn new skills and assume broader roles in the organization.

  • Energetic self-starter.
