Position Overview:

This position, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, coordinates the company's maintenance, facilities, and safety functions including upkeep and expansion of buildings and grounds, site security, management and oversight of the preventive maintenance program, and repair of all equipment, machinery, and vehicles. This position is also responsible for driving the company safety programs to ensure compliance to all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.

Position Description / Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Responsible for overall facility maintenance and janitorial support, requiring 24/7 on call availability for distribution, service, and customer training activities.
  • Drive improvements and repairs for the facility (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, forklift, dock doors, etc.).
  • Develop and implement a thorough preventive maintenance program to maintain optimal performance of critical systems, ensure adherence to safety regulations, and facilitate forward-looking infrastructure replacement planning.
  • Responsible for all facility contracts, works with external contractors to provide quotes.
  • Supervises work crews on large jobs (e.g., moving and installing large pieces of equipment) to ensure that each job is completed efficiently and safely with a minimum of equipment damage and downtime
  • Assign and monitor the work of all maintenance personnel to ensure that timely and quality work is completed and that all safety precautions and procedures are observed
  • Manage and supervise the procurement process for construction materials, janitorial supplies, facility essentials and equipment, ensuring efficient and timely purchase order handling and ontime payments.
  • Support and direct emergency crews and first response teams as required
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external facility and safety inspections, including those conducted by the Fire Marshal, OSHA, insurance representatives, and other regulatory entities.
  • Oversee facility security operations and administer the building badge identification program to ensure safety and access control.
  • Conduct facility-related post-accident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure environmental compliance of operations processes, stormwater permits, fire codes RCRA, HAZWOPPER certifications, and proper storage and disposal of waste.
  • Ensure that all necessary facility certifications and reports, including OSHA documentation, fire permits, and Tier II submissions, are up-to-date, compliant, and submitted on-time.
  • Oversee site safety programs, ensuring employee training remains up-to-date and procedures are revised as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Champion waste reduction and facilities cost savings initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in a role responsible for facility maintenance management
  • At least 1 year of experience in a formal or informal leadership role

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business or a relevant field
  • 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Prior experience in a regulated distribution environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Facility management and maintenance knowledge
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes and their administration
  • Ability to work with contractors and negotiate costs
  • Working knowledge of EHS, OSHA, and Environmental regulations and requirements gained through formal education (certifications, formal training, etc) or work experience
  • Ability to influence and lead associates (operations support, administrative support, and leadership staff)
  • Ability to oversee and prioritize multiple demanding projects

Work Environment:

This position involves both stationary office work at a desk and movement around the warehouse floor and building grounds and requires 24/7 availability for facility maintenance and janitorial support. The individual must be able to move throughout the facility, climb ladders, lift heavy objects, and operate various tools and machinery. They will handle chemicals, work with electrical systems, and operate machinery, all while adhering to safety protocols to prevent hazards such as shocks, burns, and injuries. The environment may expose them to varying temperatures, noise levels, and potentially dusty or dirty conditions. Strong communication and onsite presence are essential.
