Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health System Senior Director, Development - Foundation Relations - Major & Principal Gifts.

In this role, the Senior Director Foundation Relations is a critical role within the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs. This position serves as a strategic partner to Development leadership and is integral in developing and driving the Foundation Relations team strategy and infrastructure as well as managing a team of gift officers focused on all aspects of institutional fundraising. This leader will also consult with a working group on building and implementing a comprehensive corporate fundraising strategy.
As a member of the dynamic Office of Development and Alumni Affairs at NYU Langone Health, this Senior Director will innovate to help take foundation and corporate fundraising to the next level ensuring that efforts in this area match the enormous and ever-growing opportunities in support of NYU Langone Health's mission to achieve excellence across the tripartite mission to serve, to teach and to discover. This Senior Director will help identify strategic funding opportunities for individual or team efforts within NYU Langone Health that align with institutional priorities and vision, ensuring that funding has the most impact possible. The Senior Director will lead, as well as assist team members, with idea and proposal development and establishing and building positive relationships with foundation donors and prospects. This position will maintain an active portfolio of donors focused on the NYULH priority areas.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Close $8-10M annually with a focus on mid-6-figure and 7-figure gifts.
  • Manage and provide direction, leadership and guidance to a team of 3-5 foundation gift officers.
  • Enhance and innovate foundation fundraising approaches to optimally leverage the dynamic environment of NYU Langone Health and the organizations priority areas.
  • Strategically initiate and execute a full spectrum of foundation engagement activities in collaboration with institutional leadership, faculty, staff, gift officers, and other senior colleagues.
  • Cultivate new relationships, initiate dialogue, and develop funding opportunities with national, regional, and local foundations with an emphasis on priority clinical, educational, and research initiatives.
  • Steward current foundation donors to enhance existing relationships.
  • Based on established priorities, proactively suggest, advise, and conceptualize solicitation strategies and proposal preparation with Development gift officers, scientists and physicians. Maintain current knowledge of institutional priorities, programs, and events for informed, effective and productive prospect and donor engagement.
  • In partnership with physicians, scientists, administrators, and other gift officers, produce, write, and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and reports in appropriate language for donors. Successfully manage the process of preparing and submitting proposals, letters of intent, budgets, and reports, meeting all donor/prospect deadlines.
  • Work with leadership in the Office of Development, Office of Sponsored Program Administration (SPA), Office of Science and Research (OSR) to enhance the collaboration and leverage resources between offices.
  • Document all development activity related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and reporting/stewardship using the Trax database.
  • Work closely with the Development and SPA post-award teams to comply with all grant terms and reporting. Provide necessary follow-up and stewardship. Meet both grantee and grantor deadlines after proposals are funded.
  • Conduct foundation prospect research to identify viable prospects that complement the work of Development Prospect Management colleagues, physicians and staff at the Medical Center.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree required.
10-14+ years in healthcare foundation fundraising with a proven track record of success managing complex portfolios, soliciting and securing new commitments and building lasting relationships with institutional donors.
Minimum of 5 years management experience strong interest in effective collaboration, communication, team building and team management.
Deep knowledge and experience of innovations in and working with the local, national and international foundation landscape.
Possesses the presence, inclusivity, and communication skills necessary to be an effective representative of NYU Langone Health and a liaison to the donor base.
Develops and enhances relationships through authenticity, professionalism and trust.
Facilitates understanding through listening and crafting and delivering messages that meet the needs of different audiences.
Takes ownership of opportunities, challenges and decisions to drive work and the organization forward.
Has the ability to lead, direct and motivate others; encourages and ensures professional development opportunities for reporting staff and acts as a mentor. Meets with reporting staff individually and as a full team.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $213,477.55 - $275,625.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
