POSITION SPECIFICS

The Director of Aquatics & Head Coach of Swimming is a dual-role leadership position responsible for both the management of all aquatics programming and facilities, and the strategic oversight of the university's intercollegiate swimming program. This position requires a dynamic leader capable of balancing coaching excellence with operational and business acumen.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Head Coach - Swimming Program

  • Lead all aspects of the men's and/or women's intercollegiate swimming program, including:

  • Designing and implementing training sessions and practice schedules.

  • Assesses individuals' abilities and skill level to determine appropriate team position

  • Analyzing student-athlete performance and developing individualized practice plans.

  • Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential through athletic training and leadership skills

  • Analyzes opposing team performance and capabilities and determine competition strategy

  • Coordinating team travel and competitive scheduling.

  • Direct and manage the full recruiting process: Identify, evaluate, recruit, and retain prospective student-athletes.

  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.

  • Serve as the face of the swimming program: respond to media requests and promote the program accordingly

  • Build alumni, donor, and community engagement in collaboration with the Coordinator of Partnerships.

  • Mentor student-athletes to support academic success, personal growth, and leadership development.

  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.

Director of Aquatics - Facility & Program Management

  • Oversee daily operations and long-term planning for the university's aquatics facility.

  • Collaborate with facilities and maintenance staff to monitor and maintain mechanical systems.

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise all lifeguard and aquatic support staff.

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all users.

  • Develop and implement aquatic-based programs including:

  • Recreational swim and fitness classes, to include: wwim lessons for all age groups, lifeguard certification classes, masters swimming clubs, community swim pass offerings

  • Create new revenue-generating opportunities to support the aquatics facility and programs.

Administrative & Strategic Leadership

  • Manage operating budgets for both the swimming team and aquatics facility, ensuring fiscal responsibility.

  • Develop and coordinate summer camps and clinics in alignment with departmental and university goals.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Support, Medical Services, Judicial Affairs, Student Athlete Services, International Programs, and Compliance.

  • Enforce student-athlete conduct expectations and uphold university standards.

  • Proactively ensure full compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies, including timely self-reporting of any potential violations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree Differs per sport Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
