Sr. Chemical Engineer

Position Summary

The Sr. Chemical Engineer is a vital team member that supports activities related to the development and continual operation of Plug Power's products. You will be responsible for supporting the successful execution of projects and contributing to the overall success of our engineering department. The Sr. Chemical Engineer will support engineering activities related to MEA, stack component and stack performance. The primary focus of this role will be performance and reliability improvements related to air-cooled fuel cell technology. This includes qualification of new materials/suppliers for high-volume manufacturing processes and improved testing and incubation procedures. This individual will be responsible for engineering related aspects of materials and component testing, including design of experiments, data collection, data processing and presenting results.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Work to thoroughly understand Plug Power's projects including but not limited to relevant codes & standards, hydrogen production technology, customer site requirements, troubleshooting history, design limitations, and optimal system performance targets.

Perform various analyses necessary for the materials and conceptual design of fuel cell systems to meet functional, performance and cost requirements.

Assist in the integration of stack platforms into system platforms by creating requirement and validation testing.

Coordinate analytical studies as needed to demonstrate design performance at both component level and sub-system level.

Work with current engineering team members to improve material quality, while at the same time increasing supplier production capacity

Work with Production personnel to better understand inefficiencies in our production process; implement necessary changes within the operations and engineering team.

Qualify alternate materials including fundamental material testing and analytical characterization, MEA design and optimization, and small-scale fuel cell testing and analysis

Provide support for troubleshooting, quality improvements, complex problems; follow actions through implementation and validation.

Ability to develop understanding of complex and evolving processes as required to lead, implement, and sustain improvements

Prepare progress, status and forecast reports on multiple key aspects of the assigned area of responsibility

Develops and designs new products; makes significant advancements to programs via technical expertise and its applications.

  • Build relationships and engage in regular communications with cross-functional colleagues
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • BS in Engineering or a STEM related discipline
  • 5-10 years' experience working in Engineering
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Uncompromising dedication to quality
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to design and/or optimize independently to drive significant advancement in complex projects/programs

Pay Rate:

$92,300.00 - $138,400.00
