The English Department has an opening for a part-time Lecturer in English. The English Department at CU Denver oversees the university's core composition program, which consists of a sequence of two classes-English 1020 and 2030. The Department also offers undergraduate majors in Literature; Film; Creative Writing; and Writing, Rhetoric, and Technology; as well as an MA degree in English Studies.

What you will do:

• Teach 1-2 sections of Core Composition
• Prepare for classes, provide regular feedback on assignments, and meet with students outside the classroom

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

• Master's degree in English or related field.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

• Training in composition pedagogy and experience in the classroom teaching composition.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
• Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to teach a diverse student body
• Ability to develop a clear syllabus outlining rules and assignments for the class
• Commitment to applying rules in a consistent manner
• Ability to present writing instruction in the classroom in an engaging way
• Ability to work effectively with students on a 1-to-1 basis
• Ability to provide clear feedback on student written work
• Flexibility and empathy in adapting to student circumstances
• Ability to engage with undergraduate students who are just beginning their college careers
• A successful applicant will have training in composition studies and experience in the composition classroom.

Conditions of Employment

• This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
• This position requires an onsite presence on campus 3-4 days a week.

Compensation and Benefits

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at $1,615 per credit hour (lower division), $1,645 per credit hour (upper division and New Directions courses), or $1,808 per credit hour (graduate level).

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
