The Enterprise API teams at Salesforce are responsible for building and maintaining the core APIs and frameworks that enable real-time, programmatic interactions with the Salesforce platform. We empower both internal teams and external customers to connect, access, and manipulate data, and execute logic within Salesforce. Our teams ensure these APIs are reliable, scalable, and secure, handling billions of requests every day. We drive innovation and support critical initiatives like Agentforce, while also maintaining and evolving legacy features that are crucial for our customers.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in the development of innovative AI-driven features. This includes building the infrastructure and APIs that facilitate agent-to-agent communication and interaction within our platform. You will be responsible for ensuring these systems are robust, scalable, and secure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineering teams, guiding the design and implementation of complex AI-driven features

  • Architectural Design: Design and architect robust, scalable, and secure systems for MCP and A2A services, ensuring high availability and performance

  • Protocol Development: Deeply understand and contribute to the evolution of MCP, A2A, and related protocols, potentially contributing to open-source initiatives

  • API Integration: Develop and manage API integrations, ensuring seamless communication between AI agents, external tools, and our CRM platform

  • Distributed Systems: Work with distributed systems, microservices, and containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) to build and deploy AI services on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Security: Implement and maintain robust security measures, including OAuth/JWT authentication, TLS 1.3, and trust scoring, to protect sensitive data and ensure secure agent interactions

  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, Salesforce Architects, and other engineering teams to define requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality solutions

  • Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI, LLMs, and related technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance our platform with innovative solutions

  • Observability: Establish and manage observability and monitoring solutions

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of professional development experience including 5+ years as an engineering lead

  • Highly proficient in Java or a similar language

  • A strong adherent to software engineering best practices which enable building world class products such as unit testing, modular code, right abstractions, continuous integration mindset

  • Self-motivator, who can work independently, able to learn quickly, meets deadlines and demonstrates problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication skills with ability to articulate key points and work seamlessly across teams

  • Experience with agile development methodology

  • Understanding of AI concepts, Large Language Models (LLMs), and context limitations of LLMs

  • Knowledge of protocols like JSON-RPC, REST, and Server-Sent Events (SSE)

  • Experience with API integrations and potentially building API connectors

  • Understanding of security concepts like OAuth/JWT authentication

  • A related technical degree required

In office expectations are 10 days/a quarter to support customers and/or collaborate with their teams.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $211,500 to $306,600. For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $230,800 to $334,600. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
