The Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission is seeking an Assistant Division Trades Supervisor to work in our Maintenance Department at the Elmore Maintenance Building in Elmore, OH. Examples of Duties

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, fueling systems, boilers, roadway lighting, wastewater and potable water systems, etc., at service plazas, maintenance buildings, toll plazas and other facilities.
  • Review assignments and implement specific work tasks, assignments, and allocate equipment, material personnel and other resources to complete the work in an efficient manner.
  • Ensures policies are followed in the operations of maintenance including inventory, personnel, safety, etc.
  • Communicates via email and phone with other departments, vendors, and service contractors.
  • May procure parts, material, and equipment related to the building trades and services.
  • Supervise employees assigned to the building trades and services, including management of personnel issues, employee development and training.
  • Coordinates availability of replacement parts for repair of building equipment and/or facilities and/or special projects performed by trades.
  • Verifies trades work is properly performed and complies with electrical code, plumbing and other applicable building codes.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and direct oversight of work being performed by outside contractors.
  • Schedule operational analytical testing of potable water systems and as applicable, water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • May perform the duties of Division Trades Supervisor in the absence in the respective position.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Division Trades Supervisor.


Typical Qualifications

Major Work Characteristics

  • Skilled in the operation and use of a variety of construction tools and equipment including, plumbing/electrical/carpentry tools and associated tools and equipment, safety equipment, hand tools, trucks, etc.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health act (OSHA), national electric code (NEC), plumbing, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, and national fire protection agency (NFPA) code.
  • Possess the skill to troubleshoot and diagnose fueling systems, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and/or schematics.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Handle sensitive inquiries from vendors, contactors, officials, customers and the general public.
  • Gather, collate and classify information about data, people or things.
  • Work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to carry out detailed instructions in written or oral form.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands or tasks on projects.
  • Communicate effectively on project information in a team or work group setting.
  • Attention to detail and ability to complete documentation and forms accurately.
  • Use mechanical equipment including radio and telephone communications.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Ohio Turnpike Employee Manual, and enforcement of such.
  • Knowledge of project management, time management, supervisory principles/techniques, building maintenance practices and procedures, safety practices and procedures, including Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
  • Proficiency in the use of computer equipment and programs including electronic timekeeping (Kronos), work management/asset management programs, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of inventory control practices, agency purchasing, requisition and receiving procedures and procurement policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate of Applied Science or completion of Apprenticeship.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a building trade.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds frequently.
  • Possession of applicable trade licensure/certification is preferred.
  • State of Ohio BUSTR UST installer certification.
  • Valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).


Supplemental Information

Unusual Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions and temperatures while working outdoors, fumes, dust, dirt, human blood and bodily fluids, unpleasant odors, vibration and loud noises, hazardous materials, surface spills, high voltage, and power tools.
  • Climb ladder or scaffolding, work in confined, elevated/high work areas.
  • Assigned to an approximate 120-mile section of roadway but must have ability to drive throughout the distance of the Ohio Turnpike.
  • Required to be available for on-call hours to assist with problems affecting division operations including emergency and other situations.
