  • Estimated annual base pay: $96,800.00(minimum) - $121,000.00(midpoint) - $145,200.00(maximum)

Are you ready to make your mark? If you're a Counsel, Commercial we have an exciting opportunity for you. Woodward, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Counsel, Commercial to support our Legal team with a wide range of commercial and transactional matters in its Aerospace business segment. The attorney will be a key partner to the company's business segment, providing legal advice and counsel on complex transactional matters, general commercial issues, dispute resolution strategy, and risk mitigation opportunities. The role works cross functionally across the company, with both business and legal subject matter experts, to collaboratively analyze risks, ensure compliance with the laws, devise creative solutions and develop strong, trusted advisor relationships. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Woodward's mission while navigating a dynamic regulatory environment and partnering cross-functionally to enable business success. After an initial in-person period of ninety days, this role is hybrid, with in-office presence expected three days a week at one of our sites in Niles, Illinois; Rockford, Illinois; Fort Collins, Colorado; or Santa Clarita, California.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct comprehensive legal research and analyze relevant laws and regulations to provide informed legal advice.
  • Contract Drafting and Review: Review, interpret and advise on commercial contracts and agreements to ensure alignment with organizational goals and risk tolerance.
  • Compliance: Support the execution of compliance programs within the business segment and monitor adherence to applicable laws and industry regulations.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify and evaluate potential legal risks in business transactions and develop strategies to reduce liability and ensure compliance.
  • Advisory Support: Provide timely and practical legal counsel to departments across the organization to support business decisions and resolve issues.
  • Legal Expertise in relevant regulatory, compliance, and contract matters.
  • Analytical Thinking to evaluate complex issues and provide sound legal advice.
  • Communication Skills for clear, concise, and persuasive legal counsel.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities to craft innovative and strategic legal solutions.

What We Are Looking For

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3-5 years of experience in commercial law or a related area, preferably with experience in a corporate legal department in aviation/aerospace/manufacturing sector.
  • Familiarity with contract law, compliance, and regulatory frameworks relevant to the aerospace or industrial manufacturing with international locations.
  • Familiarity with FAA, EASA or other airworthiness regulations is a plus
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
