Intake Worker (Shelter Advocate)

Since 1979, the 120-bed Emergency Lodge, located at 1730 N 7th St. in Milwaukee, has provided emergency shelter to homeless individuals and families with children. The Intake Worker will provide support to the Social Services Director by providing supervision and intake of clients, maintaining security, and providing supportive services in a Christian atmosphere.

About the role:



  • Monitors room assignments and distributes basic necessities.
  • Provides necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed.
  • Assist with client need, refer to case manager as appropriate.
  • Provide de-escalation and crisis response.
  • Answers telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate.
  • Ensures shift is documented according to procedures.
  • Performs room inspections.


Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Certifications: N/A

Experience: Experience working with the homeless population desirable
