Job Summary

Under the direction of a qualified physician, the CT technologist will operate a variety of equipment, including a generator, gantry, patient table, control console and computer. The incumbent will be responsible for the acquisition, processing and archiving of all patient data. Under general supervision, the incumbent will independently perform CT examinations using the established exam protocols. The individual will maintain and operate equipment according to manufacturers' operation manual.

The CT Technologist will comply and adhere to department protocols, UCDHS Policies and Procedures, Department of Radiology Policies and Procedures and other applicable workrules and regulations. The technologist must act with initiative and responsibility to achieve maximum radiographic quality. Incumbent must be able to perform all job functions deemed by the Department of Radiology - CT.

Maintains a high degree of accuracy and an awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with any CT exam. Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, CT supplies, and equipment operation. Recognizes and resolves equipment operations, problems and discrepancies. Anticipates patient needs and concerns and determines the appropriate care needed. Uses professional judgment and critical thinking when performing exams. Performs calmly in stressful situations and interacts with radiologists, clinicians and peers in a cooperative, harmonious manner for maximum effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) Certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • California Radiology Technologist of Radiology (CRT-R) Certification
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (R) or ARRT (R) (CT)
  • ARRT CT within six months of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR required
  • IV Certification within six months of hire
  • No minimum experience required
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to operate equipment to provide quality images.
  • Ability to display common sense and good judgement in following rules, protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to function and remain calm under multiple direction and/or fluctuations of work volume.
  • Ability to handle a high patient volume in a high-pressure department with constantly changing priorities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiology principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning, surgical and nursing procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARRT (CT) at hire
  • Contrast administration experience
  • IV Certification
  • Experience performing similar duties in a trauma setting desired.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
