Job Overview:

Performs clerical and receptionist functions for the unit, in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures, answers inquiries of a general nature by nursing staff, physicians, patients and families, and carries out principles of positive guest relations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred:

  • Clerical experience

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift-8:00am 4:00pm
  • Monday-Friday including every other weekends/holidays
  • Part Time/Day

Essential Functions:

  • Performs the following receptionist functions for the nursing unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures: Answering the telephone within 4 rings professionally, activating the paging system for both routine and emergency use, coordinating patient admissions, transfers and discharges with other departments, and carries out the principles of positive guest relations
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform clerical functions required on the nursing unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures by competently utilizing the computer system for the following purposes: written order entry, report retrieval, census updates related to admissions, transfers and discharges, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accept and schedule appointments for patients, schedule transport, photocopy medical records per policy and maintain a log of the unit's activity
  • Follows Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures related to dress code, reporting to work on time, adhering to mandatory annual training requirements, attending Unit Clerk meetings, use of appropriate ID badge, and patient confidentiality
  • Applies the knowledge and skills necessary as they relate to the patient population served on his/her assigned unit
  • Demonstrates good communication and customer service skills as they relate to the patient population served
  • Demonstrate an awareness of patient safety initiatives at RWJBH, including but not limited to: The current National Patient Safety Goals, Federal, state and voluntary regulatory standards, Unit or departmental specific safety initiatives.
  • Participate in the Infection Prevention and at least one other patient safety initiative while exhibiting an understanding of and compliance with RWJBH protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates proper handwashing techniques and participation in unit or department-specific infection prevention projects and adheres to special and universal precautions as needed
  • Handwritten information is readable when assessed
  • Adheres to the current RWJUH Prohibited Abbreviations, Acronyms and Symbol listing
