Position Overview

Our Mission at Exact Sciences is to eradicate cancer and the suffering it causes - through tests that help prevent it, detection that finds it earlier, and guidance for its successful treatment. Come join our team and make a difference in other people's lives.

The CAD Designer, Equipment and Automation, will create Solidworks models, assemblies, and drawing files to support new products and equipment launches, as well as changes to existing equipment and products. This is an on-site role with some flexibility to work remotely. This position will maintain the PLM Vault system, ensuring parts and assemblies are up to date and documented correctly in the Quality and Manufacturing systems.

This position supports a collaborative environment that promotes positive teamwork where all members are working for the good of Exact Sciences. This is an ideal role for a hands-on Mechanical Designer with good communication skills looking to make an impact on the fight against cancer.

Essential Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with Engineers and internal customers to create designs for new or existing equipment using Solidworks.
  • Create Assembly files with complete Bill of Materials.
  • Create Drawing files using correct tolerances, including GD&T.
  • Support the PLM Vault system and product lifecycle management requirements.
  • Help develop and create assembly procedures for new or modified designs.
  • Work with external vendors to have prototype parts quoted and ordered as needed.
  • Support the assembly, testing, and documentation of designs.
  • Lead or support Design Reviews, First Article Inspection Reports, and non-conformance investigations as needed.
  • Support the part and assembly documentation requirements for the manufacturing and quality systems in accordance with FDA, GMP, ISO, CAP, CLIA requirements.
  • Apply technical knowledge to develop company products and to recommend product enhancements.
  • Prepare and present written and oral reports.
  • Follow procedures and maintain detailed records.
  • Manage time and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for < 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work standing for approximately 20% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to comply with all applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of working time for occasional training, out of state vendor site visits, and travel between Exact Sciences sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in CAD or related field with 5 years of experience using Solidworks; or, in lieu of Associate's degree, a minimum of 7 years of experience using Solidworks.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of engineering design, manufacturing practices, and procedures, and applies this knowledge to complete assignments.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with metal and plastic fabrication, including machining, sheet metal and 3D printing.
  • Experience using Solidworks Electrical, Simulation, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Experience working in manufacturing or engineering environments, applying problem solving skills and process improvements.
  • Experience in engineering or relevant life sciences / medical device industry.
  • Experience working in an FDA/cGMP/CAP/CLIA regulated production environment.

Salary Range:

$58,000.00 - $92,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to be considered for company stock at hire and on an annual basis.
