JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Morgan Academic Center is seeking a Tutorial Coordinator/Academic Support Specialist with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills to provide administrative support.The role will coordinate tutorial support for 800+ student-athletes across 31 teams (individual, small group, and drop-in), monitor compliance of program policies and procedures, and assist with ongoing projects as assigned to enhance the overall operations and delivery of all Morgan Academic Center support services.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, hire, and train qualified tutors to provide effective tutoring and supplemental instruction for students in various courses
  • Implement and monitor the compliance of program policies and procedures and conduct tutor evaluations to assess session productivity
  • Maintain accurate records and databases for data collection
  • Assist with ongoing projects to enhance student success
  • Supervision of part-time staff
  • Engage tutors in frequent professional development opportunities
  • Communicate program expectations to students and staff
  • Prepare reports regarding student needs, program utilization, and outcomes of learning services
  • Provide evaluative tools to assess tutorial program overall performance
  • Find innovative ways to both develop student academic skills and support tutor professional development
  • Recruitment involving the promotion of tutorial positions
  • Establish partnerships with on-campus and community entities to increase the tutor pool
  • Training of compliance, session breakdown, tutoring best practices, and skill development/learning strategy approaches
  • Facilitation and delivery of formal presentations and trainings
  • Other duties as assigned

Policies/Procedures:

Outline, communicate, and execute policies and procedures for students and staff. Assess and modify policies and procedures as needed for improved program effectiveness.

Accurate Record Keeping and Program Management:

Maintain accurate records of tutorial documents, the hiring process, tutorial staff information, and other tutorial components. Use Teamworks platform to store information (including tutor requests) as well as scheduling, cancelling, and rescheduling sessions. Manage and monitor tutorial e-mails and communication including the maintenance of a tutorial canvas page.

Professional Development:

Engage tutorial staff in ongoing professional development to enhance supplemental instruction, learning and academic development skills. Provide tutors with learning and/or educational resources that will help them facilitate high quality sessions.

Program Evaluation and Innovation:

Evaluate tutors and program components for effectiveness. Create comprehensive reports including tutorial program data to share with appropriate parties. Use evaluation results to apply innovative practices to improve tutor/program performance.

Education and Experience:

Minimally requires a Bachelor's Degree, 1+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This role is filled at the Intermediate Professional level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in education or related field (human development/family studies, sport or business management, information sciences or technology)
  • 2-3 years working as a tutorial coordinator and/or in learning services related position such as a learning specialist graduate assistant/intern/academic or learning assistant with tutorial experience
  • Experience using Teamworks Academics and other NCAA/University learning software
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, and experience working with NCAA student-athletes with documented learning disabilities
  • Supervision experience and experience with tutor coordination and/or scheduling and training student workers

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Experience using student success platform, such as Teamworks and Canvas
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Compliance with all NCAA, Big 10 Conference, Penn State University rules and regulations

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
