How you'll make an impact:

Global Technology Services function is responsible for ensuring security, quality, scalability and resiliency of all production services; architecting, planning, building and operating of the platform, supporting IT infrastructure and Enterprise Corporate Services across Travelport worldwide.

The Senior Director of Mainframe Platform & Systems Engineering will report directly to VP Infrastructure Engineering. This individual will lead the enhancement and stability of the Travelport Mainframe platforms (zTPF, zOS, zVM and zLinux) by providing high quality technical expertise and guidance through the architecture, build, test, and production phases.

Your role in action:



  • Creation of a zTPF talent pipeline and training program
  • Establish short- and long-term strategic programs and plans with a heavy emphasis on the achievement of established goals.
  • Partner with business leadership and executive team to analyze, consult, drive, develop and lead all aspects of the delivery of new and existing business processes and applications which support key business objectives and strategies.
  • Forge efficient relationships across the lines of the business and define enterprise-wide approaches that further Travelport strategy.
  • Negotiate across lines of business about prioritization and implications of demand.
  • Anticipate, plan and execute organizational structure and talent (i.e., skill, proficiency) transformations necessary to achieve on the long-term strategies
  • Identify both strategic opportunities and potential threats associated with new technologies.
  • Lead and mobilize team(s) of Subject Matter Experts and Directors.
  • Make decisions and recommendations of consequence to the achievement of objectives and goals critical to the success of the function or organization.

Could this be you?



  • 4-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 10+ years of experience with zTPF and related zTPF Systems (Control Program, zTPF Host Communications or zTPF File Support Database experience).
  • 10+ years of experience supporting other Mainframe environments (zOS, zVM and zLinux) with an emphasis on Mainframe Infrastructure (OS, Compute, Storage and Storage Networking)
  • 10+ years of forward-thinking and diversified leadership experience with a proven track record of constructing plans for success and leading large complex technology teams to successful accomplishment of strategic goals.
  • Strong knowledge of Mainframe Technologies, z Architecture, Assembler and C/C++ Programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge of zTPFGI and testing zTPF software in a VM (VPARS) environment.
  • Ideally has held positions in multiple areas within technology expertise, demonstrating well-rounded command of other technological disciplines.
  • Prior experience providing executive leadership and direction to leaders across multiple product or technology portfolios.
  • Deep domain expertise across a broad range of applications/products and adjacent systems.
  • Experience with planning and handling multiple projects or teams.
  • Has a proven track record running complex systems with a focus on end-to-end global applications and environments.
  • Prior experience handling vendor relationships includes ongoing management, ensuring SLAs, and holding vendors to account.
  • Background including working knowledge of major Mainframe Hardware and Software vendors.

Salary Target/Range: $175,000 - $200,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
