The Role

The Lead Information Security Engineer will evaluate, select, design, implement, and maintain security technologies for the Lumen Cyber Defense organization.

Location

This is a remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Partner with Architecture teams to evaluate security solutions
  • Implementation of security controls and processes
    • Low Level Designs
    • Firewall configuration and policy management
    • Testing
    • Documentation and training for transfer of support to Operational teams
    • Deployment of security controls for endpoint and network
  • Automation
    • Research and deploy automation for Firewall provisioning, troubleshooting, upgrade, audit, and policy implementation workflow
    • Expand automation for other technologies and use cases - XSOAR
    • Infrastructure as code - Terraform
  • Cloud
    • Deploy and manage 1st and 3rd party firewall and NSG equivalents in Azure, AWS, and GCP.
    • Maintain and improve existing network security
    • Network and host Firewall architecture and security policy
    • Hardware and software lifecycle
    • Security compliance scan result remediation
    • Audit policy for security and performance optimization, using automation tools and manual processes, based on logging and other data sources
    • Routing - troubleshooting and implementation - static route and BGP
    • IDS/IPS, Anti-virus, Malware detection
    • VPN
    • Complex maintenances
    • Escalation support
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their security features
  • and controls
  • Experience in network and/or firewall engineering, administration, design, and implementation including experience in applying methodologies and principles for all levels of security.
  • Solid understanding of information security fundamentals, host and network security hardening and requirements; networking protocols; common intrusion techniques; and common risk management concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field plus 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

  • Demonstrate knowledge of security technologies, trends, leading practices, and regulatory requirements and government security standards such as FedRAMP and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) standards, along with best practices such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001-27002 and other applicable security and privacy laws.
  • Experience in incident response, computer forensics security, risk assessments, application security or network security.
  • Experience with technologies, tools, and process controls to minimize risk and data exposure.
  • Development experience in scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
  • Experience in large enterprise or carrier data centers and/or networks.
  • Certifications In specific security technologies such as Fortinet, Arbor, Radware, Palo Alto, Cisco, or Checkpoint.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$103,711 - $138,281 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$108,896 - $145,195 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$114,082 - $152,109 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
