THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will manage multiple construction projects of moderate complexity and oversee the inspection of intricate project phases from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to professionalism, timelines, cost efficiency, and safety standards. You will serve as the Inspector-In-Charge for highway construction, which encompasses responsibilities such as roadway pavement reconstruction, guiderail installation, flood control measures, and bridge rehabilitation. It will be essential to address challenges that necessitate collaboration with municipalities, businesses, emergency services, railroads, and utility companies, providing assistance to facilitate resolutions. You will support the Assistant Construction Engineer with scheduling and delays, engage in constructability reviews, and prepare essential documentation, work orders, and cost estimates. It is crucial to ensure that all materials utilized are certified and comply with specifications while supervising adherence to contract stipulations. You will maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders to foster a positive image for PennDOT and oversee all facets of highway construction, including grading, paving, and drainage. Additionally, you will review designs for constructability and conduct project evaluations post-completion to ensure maintenance efficiency.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $58,035 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration): or
  • Four years of experience in construction inspection, including one year in a supervisory capacity; and graduation from high school or equivalent certification of formal training. Completion of a training program in construction inspection sanctioned by the using agency may be substituted for high school graduation. An Associate Degree in an engineering or closely related technology may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position requires a Class C non-commercial driver's license
